Did they raise the price on this or was that an error in the thread? It's 299$ now, but the 269$ would be a damn good deal...

The new KO version with the larger HS that covers the RAM sinks is very nice.

If anyone does get one, make sure you do NOT purchase the extended warranty for $50. EVGA offers a lifetime warranty and will be much, much easier to deal with for any RMA than these yahoos at Monarch.

After doing some researching I have to say the XFX deal is probably better than the eVGA deal if you are going to SLI or Vmod the card.
If you are going voltmod your card you must get some aftermarket cooling or you will heavily reduce the lifespan of your card.
There are several solutions to 3rd party cooling where some are too big for SLI and some are compatable with SLI (I believe).
If you have the $ to spend on 2 SLI 7900 GT I would go with 3rd party cooling + limited Vmod. However if you aim a fan right at the cards you probably can help out a lot with the temperatures.
Also some people complain about the noisiness of today's graphic cards and slap on an aftermarket cooling just to reduce the noise.

Edit: For major sp / grammer errors that really pissed me off. Hate it when I can't do it right the first time.

Other thoughts:
The eVGA might have .1ns faster memory which equates to an extremely small gain in performance or none. I say this, because each card varies in terms of OCing ability. So two of the same model cards will have similar OC results, but will probably differ just slightly.
Also eVGA has lifetime warranty (seems to be good for the original purchaser) where-as XFX had double lifetime warranty (good for the 1st owner + good for the 2nd owner of the card. Will also increase resale value for the 1st owner.)

Double Lifetime LOL what a Joke! They have to, do to sell it. I feel sorry for anyone who buys into that stuff. There is a reason why EVGA does not have to do that stupid crap, they make good cards for fair price. Pluss they just dropped the card to $475.69!

for those of us looking to dump our cards on ebay a couple months from now.. the 2X lifetime could possibly help the resell value.

I just stepped up my 7800GT to a 7900GTX, but looking at these prices now I dont think I got such a hot deal. I could have just waited and bought the 7900GTX directly.

That is a very good point. However I am still standing behind my EVGA boys on this one! Also I bet if you started a post on what the best Nvidia brand is it would not be XFX.

Do any of these companies make their own cards? Photos of the eVGA and XFX 7900GT's look identical to me.

I believe these companies are just retail brands and all actual assembly and manufacture is done by other companies like Solectron or whoever.

I like BFG.
Evga is my 2nd choice. I have a Evga 7900GT and a BFG 7900GTX on the way. Had BFG 6800GT SLI in the past and also a Evga 7800GT in the past.

All good cards of course, but overall I'd want BFG in my experience.

XFX used to take a beating in the forums, but especially starting with the 7800 series, they have been right at the top with EVGA. IMO their double lifetime warranty puts them on top, considering both companies offer nearly identical performance and price.

I do prefer the new EVGA KO version simply because of the new larger HS though.

Nope there are only "bascially" two GPU makers right now: Nvidia and ATI.
Nvidia allows other companies to sell Nvidia chipped cards. ATI does build and sell their own branded cards, but other companies can sell the ATI chipped cards.
Typically the construction of graphic cards are all identical; however, the main differences are video outputs/inputs, component manufactures (example memory chip brand), cooling (these days vanilla cards all have the same stock cooling), and bundles.

Don't you mind the noise of the stock coolers?
I basically ignore the stock cooler since I know that I cannot stand their noise and have to use an after market cooler anyway.

Sometimes yes, but the 7900 cards run cool enough that the stock HSF is small and not that loud. From what I've read, they are nothing like the x1800/1900's from ATI with the stock cooler.

BFG owns all, period. They offer the best warranty. Anytime your card is f****d, call them up and they will replace it. No need to register to get the lifetime warranty like EVGA and XFX. So you can sell your card to anyone and that person can sell that card to anyone and still get the same warranty.
