It's rare for somebody to be looking for loud fans...I had a Panaflo U1BX rated @ 114 cfm and 47 db. It sounds like my 5850 attempting flight. Either way though, Delta's make the highest CFM fans. Probably used in hovercrafts.

I think I underestimated the noise factor a tiny bit, even after hearing about the hovercrafts, airplane engines, blow dryer, leaf blower, vacuum and finger dismemberment comments.

(real hover action :awe

These videos convinced me, I thought I could bare the noise but that really is ridiculous, way beyond overkill.. lol

I don't think I saw anything that was around 37 dBA~ that had more than 110 CFM, I might just end up going with the Scythe SY1225SL12SH they're only $8 too.

Sorry LOUISSSSS i'm gonna have to pass for now, I have new found respect for 50+ dBA fans. D:

Yeah, I didn't think any sane man could stand over 50db+ coming from something two feet from them .

what are these fans for? What would you need 110+ CFM for?

I have the Scythe you listed.
Don't believe the airflow rating.

edit- don't use them on a rad or heatsink, open air only.

I guess you could always fill up a fish tank with some non conductive liquid and submerge all your parts in there with one of the 252 CFM fans to create a giant tornado whirlpool monster.

I was actually planning on using it for a friend's corsair h50 rad, the stock fan it comes with is really weak.
They're not good performers on rads or heatsinks?

Definitely not. Their noise / tone changes on a rad as well. I've tried many fans for use on rads and keep going back to the Yates. I just got a couple of 92mm Gentle Typhoons and gotta say the sound they made was very tolerable. I haven't used them on a rad yet but from what I understand they have good static pressure so next time I try a new fan I'll get some 120's for my rads.

Now, now boys, you are truly missing out: peruse this lovely gem. Does 300 cfm float your boat? Remember, this is an industrial supplier so its fans must conform to spec or customers send back their 10,000 item orders.

Want one? you can get it here.

I'd love to get one to make a 12v leaf blower.

I have one of those Deltas with the highest CFM. I had it as an intake once for fun, and I swear it pushed air out of every tiny little gap in the case. Even slowed down, they're still loud/unpleasant to listen to. Still, I think they are a good fan if you're looking for industrial quality for a server or something you're not sitting in the same room with. I still have the urge to stick a hot dog in it just to see what happens...might be a neat YouTube video.

I can't find any comparisons of fans specifically comparing static pressure, seems like the majority if not all of the few fan reviews out there are just treated as case fan performance rather than for heatsink or radiator applications.

The only comparison I could find that's vaguely remotely aiming at this is a review comparing LGA 1366 heatsinks in which they added a small fan comparison article comparing these fans:

Yate Loon D12SH-12 120x120x25mm (88 CFM @ 40 dBA)
Scythe Kaze-Jyuni Slip-Stream SY1225SL12SH 120x120x25mm (110.31 CFM Advertised @ 37.0 dBA)
CoolAge SX2 CA-120SX2 120x120x38mm (80 CFM Advertised @ 32 dBA)
Scythe Ultra Kaze DFS123812H-3000 120x120x38 (133.6 CFM @ 45.9 dBA)

The Yate Loon D12SH seems to rival them and it's 120x120x25 which is a plus.
I've also heard good things about the Noctua NF-P12 and Scythe Gentle Typhoon D1225C12B5AP-15 fans.

So I'm stuck trying to decide between the Yate Loon D12SH, Noctua NF-P12 and Scythe Gentle Typhoon D1225C12B5AP-15 based off mostly suggestions from various forums, I dislike not having a solid scientific comparison in front of me then again they all probably perform equally well.
At least I'm getting somewhere, maybe.

Delta fans are awesome! I do have one model (AFB1212SH-PWM) that can be slowed down (four wire PWM) that moves about 115CFM. When slower it's silent without growling or whining.

The larger ones with static vanes definitely whine until they are crawling though.

I don't think a wiener will fare too well against these fans at >3000 RPM.

There's other manufacturers of equally noisy fans as well. Panaflow, Pabst, Nidec, San Ace, NMB are such manufactures that come to mind. If you're wondering how bad these can maul fingers just feel the edge of the blades! Some are so sharp they feel like a knife! That spinning at >3000 RPM = instant bloody finger!

There is nothing wrong with loud fans if you have a need to move that much air or have a pressure requirement. Just sitting next to such a system full of these fans is rather uncomfortable after a while. You know it's bad when someone calls you and they tell you they will call you back when you get back inside!

I'd rather listen to a box filled with these fans than a 1U box full of 40mm screamers. That is torture!

Rubycon's advice is pretty much down center-field.

My thoughts:
1) A fan like the 120x35mm Delta Tri-Blade (@ 0.90A and around 150CFM at full-bore) can be controlled. Some of these fans are very quiet at moderate speeds (between 1,500 and 2,500 rpm) and top out at around 3,700 rpm and closer to 55 dBA in noise. I have been inclined to use them for that reason.
2) The beefier the fan and motor, the better at lower speeds. By "beefier," I also mean that a 120x35mm fan may likely be less noisy than a 120x25mm fan rated at the same CFM.

I'd also second Ruby's recommendations for San-Ace and Panaflo in addition to Delta. Isn't NMB the same as Panaflo?

It's eMinebea.

A little OT - the Scythe Gentle Typhoon is made by Nidec and is of very high quality. I wish they made a 3000 RPM version with PWM. That would be the holy grail of fans IMO.
