Looking for a PCI card for doing dual monitors with SLI (2 x 7900 GT's), but I can't give up using two monitors, so I figure I might as well get a 3dfx card in the machine for the second monitor...

I'm guessing some of the current pci vid cards (like 6200) might outpeform it..

While it would be nice running Glide, I have to wonder how well it would handle XP, or even Vista. Although with it being rendered and all, I wonder if Vista would work in SLI.
Ugh, what a pain in the ass. I might just have to deal with disabling SLI mode for dual monitors I guess.... Fun fun.

i have a voodoo 5 5500 and it runs fine under XP. to enable glide hardware support, you need to install some 3rd party drivers, but they work just fine (glide + diablo2 = ownage)

It's probably best to get a 6200 or something instead of a 3dfx card. You will need to mess around with third party drivers to get the 3dfx cards working at all and they're probably too old to have DVI ports (and the 2D analog quality may not be up to par with that of modern cards).
The 3dfx cards are great for many old Glide-only games, although many of those need DOS or 95/98 to run properly.

hmmm I think everybody is wrong about the 5500 being a PCI card....that was the AGP model, the PCI model was the 5000.
I should know I own both models...and as soon as I can find one I'll get a 6000 in my collection as well.
but for the non believers read below.

Pretty sure there was a Voodoo 5 5500 PCI, and the Voodoo5 5000 was a 32MB card that was never released.

my PCI model is a 64mb version and is identified by it's drivers as a 3DFX Voodoo 5 5000 PCI....same goes for the ID sticker on the back of the card.
My AGP version is a 5500 and is identified as such.

The 5500 was in AGP and PCI.

OP: do you mean having a second card to power a second monitor or using it to power both monitors?

Hmmm... Wondering what type of Video cards we would be using if it were not for all the 3dfx technology stolen by theyre competition.
