Ok i am using a EPoX 8K5A2+ motherboard, have had the mobo for just under a year - with a Highpoint HPt372 RAID controller onboard. I have tried to use the raid controler before but have always got a "Disk I/O Error Status: 0008001" message right before the windows loading screen comes up, so i switched the drives to the standard IDE channels. The message still appears, but only for about half a second.
However i bought a new Hitachi (IBM) 180GXP 80Gb hdd the other day and as i have no space on the standard IDE, i have to use the RAID channels. The drive went in fine, Highpoint bios detected it and it is set as a non-booting drive. Windows detected, partitioned and formatted it and i thought it was ok. However when the system restarts, the system hangs just after the drives have been detected by highpoint bios, but before windows has booted or the BIOS table displaying devices has flashed up. This happens when any hdd is attached to any channel on the RAID controller. A temporary fix for the problem is to power off, switch the HDD cable from one IDE RAID port to the other, and it will then boot. On a subsequent restart, however, it again does the same thing.
Any ideas anyone?
P.S I am running windows 2000 will post later with what the debug lights show when it hangs (EPoX mobo!)
Thanks
UPDATE: I think it might b the bios - i'll tell ya how it goes
