You have to wonder about him. How does someone as clearly brilliant as Carson end up where he is today? You don't get to be one of the world's most respected brain surgeons by being an idiot, but he just seems confused and bewildered every time he opens his mouth.
I went to a Seventh Day Adventist university (for undergrad), the one Carson actually made his infamous grain pyramid statements at, and I believed a lot of their doctrine myself back then. There were a decent number of people who were quite intelligent and talented in their fields of study who subscribed to the exact same kind of fundamentalist anti-scientific religious doctrines he did. You'll have to take my word for this when I say they (and I, prior to coming to my senses) weren't all in some kind of long con.
