Not in 100% agreement, but I do believe states should do away with winner takes all when it comes to electoral votes. Proportional electoral college gives those voting for third party candidates an actual chance of their candidate ever being anything more than a vote of protest.

I don't have to...the founding fathers of this country have already done that...they have also provided a way to change it also which requires 3/4 of the states to ratify it...good luck with the smaller states on that one....

The Electoral College was intended to be a deliberative body, not the rubber stamp it has become-

Trump's radical agenda is illegitimate considering that he didn't get a plurality of votes, a true mandate from the People. A sane & sensible person elected in such a way would temper their actions in recognition of that fact. Not Donald.

The Original idea was to prevent someone impossible to be elected, like Jesus or King Edward or the more common fear of David Johnson won but which David Johnson, the guy from NY or the David Johnson from VA or the David Johnson from MA.
These concerns are irrelevant today. There is no functional reason for the Electoral College to exist today.
People always think it was some grand plan to give smaller States more power, that was not the original intent. Most people don't realize that some states votes count more than other states votes and finally I'd bet that the majority of voters in the high value states would happily relinquish their more powerful votes just to have fewer robo calls, campaign ads and an overall shorter campaign season.

I think it would take a Constitutional crisis or civil war to get rid of the EC. Big states would have to force the issue, or small states aren't going to give it up. There is some wisdom to EC though, because it is not entirely healthy to have the government be responsive to a handful of media markets. Also it's not like the small states are ripping some massive benefits from the EC. Trump states are primarily losers in the competitive modern world.

At this point I don't think mob rule could be any worse. The gerrymandering and electoral college games are doing little to protect the plebs from their foolish votes. Quite the contrary.
