How are Pittsburgh and Philly different from each other?

Philly is known for cheese steaks, liberty bell.

Pittsburgh is known for......... coal?

Pittsburgh is an old steel town. You can still see a bunch of the old run down steel mills just collecting dust. If I'd have to guess on a specific food their known for I'd have to say it's a Primanti's sandwich. I personally can't stand them but folks here seem to like them (I don't know what they put in their cole slaw but it's vile I tell you).

Don't forget pierogies!

Philadelphia is a very crowded area, very dirty looking as well. Extremely expensive to live in so I've been told. The people seem to be arrogant and demanding.

Pittsburgh is smaller, but cleaner looking. A bunch of confusing bridges zig zag around the city. It is surrounded by mountainous/wooded areas, so you don't have to go too far to feel like you're in the country again. The people have a good attitude and know how to have fun.

Pittsburgh is awesome, I got a job offer there, but it was too expensive compared to where I live now, so I declined. Make sure to scout the housing market if you come from an area where housing is REALLY CHEAP

Did you make sure to check the housing prices within a 15 to 20 minute driving radius around Pittsburgh?

Wow, that's an uncommon viewpoint. Pittsburgh housing is among the most affordable in the country. Every time we bring someone in from another city they are astounded at how much they get for their money.

I found the area to be quite cheap, I ended up in a 2 bedroom/1.5 bath apartment for $420 a month.

That would be worth $750+ where I'm from (Beaverton/Portland).

I went as far as 45-minute drive from Pittsburgh. Houses for $160K in worse shape than houses in my area that sell for $75,000.

There is always another one. Though I seriously loved Pittsburgh, #2 on my all-time favorite list of US cities (#1 is Boston).

As far as cost of living goes, it's much cheaper in the counties AROUND Allegheny County (where Pittsburgh is located). Viper and I live in Washington County (just south of Pittsburgh) which is much cheaper than Allegheny County. And Beaver Counth (just north of Pittsburgh) is a bit cheaper as well.
