Ok, Just got the card, installed it with cat's 6.8. Everything runs fine. The core is set at 500 and the memory at 1200. I know the mem is suppose to be that, but the core is supposed to be 575. I also know about the 2D and 3D clocks and they clock up once entering 3D. But these stay at 500 core. Is there something im missing ? Or how do you get it to clock up...Im using ATI Tray Tools also for this...thanks

Edit: The card idles at 46 cel

Ati cards only switch to 3D clocks when running 3D apps and they're in fullscreen mode. If you're just running some 3D app in a window then it stays in 2D clocks. You don't have to do anything unless you're OC'ing.

Yeah auto switches to 3d mode.

Yeah, my IceQ3 x1900xt does that too. Defaults to a lower speed on 2D apps. No worries.

Thanks for the replies. Is there anyway to check and make sure its clocking up to 575 in 3D ? It runs at 46c idle, and the highest I have seen so far ( after 2 hours of Prey ) is 59c. Im assuming that is pretty good. I havent tried to overclock anything yet. By the way, how do you enable overclocking in ATI Tray Tools ?

To check the clocking, use ATI Tray Tools. It has a hardware monitoring mode that will keep track of everything, just have it log core/mem speeds, go play a game for a bit, then come back and see what it recorded.

Oh, and overclocking is disabled in ATT. I personally use RivaTuner to set the clocks on my X1900XTX as a startup item.

The problem that you're going to run into is that none of the secondary ATI overclocking programs work 100% on the X1*** series cards. I would start by unlocking ATI overdrive and see what it takes you up to and what it shows temps as. It won't show fan speeds, it won't scan for artifacts, and it may not let you OC the card to it's full ability. Mine shows a ceiling of 650/720 and my GT will run 648/711 safe and stable. The other prob I have with it is that it will tend to crank the core to 648 and just let the mem sit there at stock sometimes. I use ATItool at times, mainly beta 25 version 15. Each current beta of ATItool has it's own problems, but it will scan for artifacts, may allow testing higher OCs than Overdrive, and shows both the core and the vreg temps. If you turn on 3D view I believe it may also kick in the 3D speeds. The author is working on better versions so we have to have patience. I messed around with tray tools and rivatuner and ended up uninstalling both. I haven't tried the other overclocker program floating around, but I understand it loosens memory timings.

Which version of ATItool? (very important)

Nice, now that one is showing the clocks for 2D correctly..thanks. Is there a way to log my clock while im in the game to make sure their clocking up to 3D correctly ?

Edit: Isnt Overdrive in CCC ?

You're welcome.

A) Not sure, haven't tried that yet, probably.

B) Yes

Well, I unlocked Overdrive, and the requested was 648 core, at 53 celcius. Mem clocks didnt move at all. Like you said, just sat there.

I then closed it, I got the core up to 681, but had a few yellow artifacts in ATITool. Backed it off to 660 it was stable with fan at 75% at a temp of 56 celcius. Havent tried the memory yet.

Edit : With ATI Tray Tools, the temp at idle is 40 celcius with fan at 75%

Great temps. You may have to back off of the core a little when you up the memory. I'm betting your OC clocks turn out real close to mine. Try648/711 in ATItool and scan for artifacts. If you're good then shoot for the 660 core and see if you're still good. You don't want to know what your temps would be if you had the regular stock cooler:Q

Well, the core is 100% stable at 660 while the memory is 100% stable at 725 ( 1450 ) while running at 57c. Ill tell ya what, the cooling on this card is beyond excellent.

I ran 3Dmark05 and 3DMark 06 with no problems whatsoever. Tomorrow ( once I figure out the bios ) im going to overclock the cpu to 2.4 and run them again

No, I was running those individually. Wouldnt dare attempt it at same time.

Well, stock cpu and video the score was 7603 in 3DMark05. Once I overclocked the video card to 660 and the memory at 725 ( 1450 ) the score was 8154. Now im going to try to get the most out of the cpu which is 2.2 stock and run the test again. That should boost my cpu score some hopefully. And, im going to try to overclock the card to 670 core and 1500. What ive seen so far, it should do it easily. I stopped last nite cause I was tired.

Those scores sound about right. I wouldn't attempt josh6079's clocks though, as I suspect he has a water block hooked up to his GT

What clocks were you able to achieve Josh ?

I asked him and he said " 715/1800 watercooled".

wow. I'm still sitting at 650/1425 air.

By the way, have you ever read this thread - X1900GT Unlock ?, there's someone else with great clocks on water in it. He used some pretty insane voltage though, from what I remember. I forgot to ask josh6079 if he's bumped his volts.
