Ok so I have an old KT600A board with an XP 2100+ and 1 gig of pc2100

I only play World of Warcraft and I don't think WoW is demanding enough to blow $500 or so on a new motherboard/cpu/ram/etc.
I recently joined a raiding guild and while my old GeForce 6600 lagged a little it really locks up when I get with 24 other people in a raid. So I thought hey the cheapest easiest way to fix this would be upgrade video card.
Research led me to the X1950 as the best card for the money so I bought one from newegg. Was around $200. I had a 350W power supply and figured I could upgrade that too if mine didn't power the card.
So the card arrived. I downloaded the newest drivers from ATI for Vista. Everything loads ok and I login to wow and my fps is horrible. Game is lagging real bad and I kept getting blue screens. Ok fine, power supply isn't powerful enough.
So today I spent another $100 on a 500w power supply. Installed it, hooked the card up to the PCI-E port (the card is AGP but the power supply has a connection that fits on the video card perfectly) and load it up. Same thing. Laggy game, low FPS and blue screens.
So I researched it and found that 7.7 and up are unstable for this card. So I tried 7.5 and 7.6.... Both do the same thing.
So now I'm wondering if I should format and put on XP and see if things are any better. I really hate vista and want to get rid of it anyway but I'm not sure if this is going to help things. I have all the crappy services off incuding aero and all.
I know my cpu/mobo/ram are crap. I know it's only running at 133 and it's ancient. But would it really be so bad that it's making the new graphics card run crappier than the old one?
Can anyone offer suggestions? Advice? Anything?
The power supply I can return but the card only has a 30 day replacement. I cannot return it for my money back. If I upgrade my mobo/cpu/ram I'll end up getting a mobo with a PCI-e slot and then the $200 I spent for this card would have been for nothing.
So please someone give me something to work with. I'm freaking out
