I can't decide if I like this budget tablet or not...

Hisense Sero 7 Pro

7 inch 1280x800 IPS display
1.3GHz Tegra 3
1GB RAM
8GB eMMC
micro SD
mini HDMI
5MP and 2MP cameras
Android 4.2

$150 at Walmart (starting tomorrow)

It's very similar to the Nexus 7 with the addition of micro SD, mini HDMI, and cameras. This looks like the first sub $200 tablet that I think might be a reasonable buy. If a micro SD or mini HDMI ports are important, this looks like it could be worth the money.

What I'm not too excited about is it's from a company that hasn't made tablets before (at least in North America) and I'm skeptical it'll get updated, definitely not like the Nexus 7 will. And we may be getting a new $200 Nexus 7 tablet that would likely put this to shame.

Still, I think it looks okay either way. Certainly better than those sub $200 1024x600 resolution non-IPS tablets HP, ASUS, Lenovo and others recently spewed out.

I pulled the trigger on this and very glad I did. Works really nice. Also, it has GPS and my installed my 32g sdhc card.

Benchmarked with PassMark
overall score: 2140
cpu mark: 8579
disk mark: 6798
All the scores were above or near the asus trans prime tf201 and was above all scores of nexus7.

I'd love a report on battery life after a month or so of use.

That's still my biggest suspicion with no-name brand Chinese tablets at rock bottom prices- that they may have skimped on battery quality to get that price down. Several of the models I was almost tempted by in the past ended up with users complaining the tablets were drained after just an hour or two off the charger- with the screen off.

Since you're buying this at Walmart B&M, you have 2 weeks to test the battery life inside the return window.

I'm debating whether I want to sell my Nexus 7. The Sero 7 Pro comes with the newest version of Android, but I'm wondering how quickly it will receive updates (Nexus devices get updates right away).

Looks like I'm not the only one with the same concerns.

But there’s one big caveat with the Sero 7 LT, not listed on Walmart’s product page: According to Engadget, TechRadar and others, this tablet will only last for about four hours on a charge. Most other tablets last at least twice as long.
Yeaaahh.. sounds like the exact same corner-cutting batteries with many of the other cheap-ass tablets. Some may say, "Well I could live with 4 hours..." Except if it follows pattern, it'll be more like 3 hours, then after a few months 2, then it'll barely stay charged without being tethered, screen on or off.

Pass.

Update: hisense 7 pro
I have had the tablet in use for 10 hours and the battery is @ 20% (on the web with WiFi on and screen brightness med.)
Also ,connected it through HDMI to my tv and the sound and picture was perfect.

Newbie here, to these forums as well as tablets in general. Cost has been the only thing keeping me from getting a tablet until now. I've trialed a few cheapos, only to return them within days as unacceptable crapola. I do have some experience with android phones, specifically my LG Optimus.

The Sero Pro (not to be confused with the cheaper LT) seems to be rock solid. It is fast, great resolution and feels substantial. It has a substantial heft to it, due to the metal case, and is nothing like the plastic devices I've dabbled with.

I've hit a wall, though, and hope someone here can help me out. I want to implement Jelly Bean's multiple user features, but I cannot find the "User" settings.

The "About tablet" screen reports Android version 4.2.1.

Does anyone here have any suggestions? What am I missing?

Thanks in advance. I've tried searching for support on the Hisense site and elsewhere, but if the information is out there, I've missed it. Also, excuse me if this in the wrong thread.

I bought this last night, but I ended up returning it this morning. As I was testing it, I found that there was a spot on the screen that wasn't responding well. I used a paint app and kept swiping over that area and most times it doesn't respond. It only responds every once in a while.
I haven't tested a Nexus 7 before, but does the carousel in the Kindle app kind of lag? It was doing that on the Hisense.
Finally, I heard the Sero 7 Pro gets warm pretty quickly when doing something processor/graphics intensive. Anyone compare this to how fast or slow the Nexus 7 heats up?

I have a Nexus7 and it heats up about the same while gaming time wise and temp. "to the touch"
I have 2 of the pro7's and neither have any problem areas with the touch screens and hdmi works fine on both.
I also tested the kindle carousel on all 3 tablets " 1 nexus7, 2 hisense pro 7's and no lag on any. All worked the same.

I just got one to use as as a car system. Anyone have a recommendation re: an anti-glare screen cover? The tablet's brightness doesn't match my Touchpad's, but I think I can deal with that as long as I can figure out how to cut down the glare.

Any one knows how to get around to install apps to the SD card? It seems with Jelly Bean the feature is removed.
Thanks.

I too am looking for resolution to the issue of user settings not shown?
