The Huawei Mate 8 smartphone launched with HiSilicon's Kirin 950
with quad A72 + quad A53

The Integer single thread performance looks quite good, Floating Point
is a bit less, also LPDDR3 drags down the score. Multiprocessing scores
however beat absolutely everything here. (Fast browsing in Chrome)

Against Intel Skylake core-m3 in ASUS 13.3" ultrabook

Against Intel quad core Sophia x3-C3230 in cheap 7" Tablet

Seems that Core M is slowly losing terrain... And Intel SoFia is a MASSIVE dissaster.... With the new lowest A53 core, they have nothing to do. At MIPS processors levels I think...

Even the A9 scores better in the memory test, which may indicate a better quality memory controller in the Apple chip than in the HiSilicon part.
Apples scores better because of CPU arch being able to make use of the bandwidth, not because of anything else in the chain.

CPU data goes:

Core -> L2 -> CCI400 -> NoC Fabric -> Memory Controller -> DRAM

Anything beyond the core can be a bottleneck and depends on implementation.

Ok
Does the low mem score actually matter - eg for surfing?
Is there one place in the chain you suspect its perhaps more weak in regards to memory?

Just had conversation with my hardware guy.. He had this to say..

F*ck the nxt.
It's a fire prone pocket cooker.
ARM Hisilicon @ 1.80 GHz
Chinese arm 11 with emulated cortex a72 instructions. Bah.

This is what's coming..
Nexus 9p tablet, And a Xiaomi phone..
Tegra X1, 256GB emmc, 8gb ram.
10w TDP, Standby is .04 watt.
Big little implementation, 5 cores. Nvidia Maxwell gpu, 0 instruction switch to streaming cores... 256 streaming cores, 1024 bit wide barrel adders, 512 io regs, 1TFLOP in 128 bit mode, at 64 bit, 1.9TFLOP, in 32 bit mode, 3.98 TFLOP. 10 watts.
Intel is shitting their pants.

Verizon variant is at fcc now.
Att variant is in the wild.

I don't know what capacity he's a "hardware guy" in but pretty much everything he's saying here seems pretty clueless.

- Agreed.

Your post "seems" pretty vague.. He actually works in hardware in Silicon Valley, so I'm gonna go with his insight on this.

Thanks

Hey, suit yourself. I could go over all of the ways that post makes no sense but I get the feeling it's not going to trump whatever appeal to authority "works in hardware in Silicon Valley" means to you.

I can give a few name of people who "works in hardware in Silicon Valley" who I would not trust to give judgement on anything (not even specifically on SoCs ())
