Based on this thread I think it's time for me to buy a dash cam

My friend and his girlfriend were hit by a drunk driver at a red light and got banged up pretty bad a couple years ago. Luckily they are fine now, totaled both the cars

The douchebag that hit them was driving a brand new dodge charger he purchased 2 days before. After the wreck he cussed out my friend then proceeded to try to fight the cops when they arrested him. He blew a .4 BAC, what a piece of trash

Similar thing happened to me a few years ago. Some lady yapping on your cell phone ran a red. I clipped her rear quarter panel and she did a 180 into the corner. A few seconds and should would have t-boned me hard. Fortunately she admitted to the cop on the scene that she was on her phone and never realized it was a red for her.

When I was very young, maybe 20, I raced a yellow light, it turned red just as I crossed the pedestrian walk way and I clipped a rear quarter panel of a car jumping the green light a bit, in anticipation of it turning green.. if that makes sense. No one was hurt, I was driving a 3 ton truck, there was a baby in her back seat.. Man! I still remember that lesson, gives me shivers.

Lying to officers about a traffic accident should be a punishable crime.

Update,

My company called and took my statement. They will be sending an adjuster out today to look at it. The other driver's company has not called yet.

Unfortunately, as the officer didn't indicate fault one way or the other, and their are no witnesses nor videos of the incident, it's likely that you're going to lose your deductible. Sure, your carrier will attempt to subrogate from hers, but it's unlikely to go far.

Well, you don't sue her, you sue her insurance company. But I'd go after her trailer too. Shit like that pisses me off. There is no reason to run a red light like that. You're lucky she didn't kill you.

As for her claiming she had the green, she's lying.

No she's not. She had a green light.
Prove she didn't.

Exactly this. Without witnesses/video of the accident, it's "he said/she said," and you're gonna get fucked in the ass. At BEST, it will be allocated 50/50...each of you will have to make claims against your own insurance and pay your own deductibles. (not sure how PA insurance law works)

PA is at least partially a no-fault state. Ouch.

Well at least you didn't get hurt which is good. Hopefully you get everything straightened out quickly.

I've been out of commission for the last 2 weeks because of a careless driver. I was at a redlight and some guy talking on his phone wasn't paying attention and slammed into the back of my truck at 45mph. I've been to the ER 3 times because of the accident and complications after. Last Monday i was in so much pain, I was given meds through an IV to knock me out for 8 hours. I've lost all memory of the day before the accident due to a concussion. I've also got whiplash and have been suffering daily headaches, back and neck pain, occassional twitches in my left arm and leg, I have drastic mood swings now and pretty much can't contain my anger. The slightest thing can set me off. Thanks to this, I am limiting my contact with my kids because even the smallest thing they do, which would be easily tolerable causes me to just absolutely flip out.
I'm also easily fatigued and get really tired during the day, but can't sleep. The only way I've been able to go to sleep the last week has been by taking muscle relaxers and prescription pain meds.
I've also had for lack of a better word, slight issuses with daily tasks. After using the restroom a few days after the reck I did my business turned to flush and started to reach for the bowl fully thinking it was the sink and that's where you wash your hands. I caught myself at the last second before it got real gross. a few days later I almost burnt the house down when I took the burner cover off of the burner on the stove I always use and proceeded to turn on a different burner. I came back to the cover billowing smoke and fire underneath it.
I'm just glad that this happened after I had just dropped off my autistic daughter at daycare and not before.

Me too. I have been screwed once before.

Why don't people take responsibility for their accidents anymore? I used to remember when someone caused and accident, they honestly admit fault. Now when someone causes an accident, they can lie with a straight face and scream as if they are innocent. I just pisses me off.

I've never witnessed an accident in its entirety to be a witness, but I've sworn that if I do I'll be more than happy to stick around and make sure somebody else isn't bullshitting. I've heard too many stories of people trying to slime their way out of fuck-ups.

It is. Like all crimes, though, they have to prove it in order to charge you.

Yeah, someone turned in front of us while I was doing 45mph last year and, despite me swerving to avoid hitting them, they just kept on driving like they never saw me so I hit them. Then they just took off. Such bullshit. $700 out of my pocket and they never got charged with anything b/c I didn't get their tag. This happened like a week before we were going to drive down to DisneyWorld, too.

https://maps.google.com/maps?q=Gunn...rmantown,+Montgomery,+Maryland+20876&t=m&z=18

Happened yesterday at the intersection of 355\gunners branch road in Germantown. I was headed westbound on Gunners Branch crossing over 355 and entering the adjacent shopping center to go to the gym. I had a full on green light and was only a few hundred feet behind a car that had turned left. As I crossed over the highway a jeep going at least 50 mph runs the red light and crosses directly in front of me. I had little time to swurve and hit them in there back quarter panel on the driver's side head on. They changed there tire and bent some metal and drove off but my car my VW Tiguan had internal damage and likely had the full cutoff engaged as it wouldn't start.

The best part is the stupid bitch claims she had a green light also. I don't see how that is possible considering I had to cross 4 lanes of south bound traffic and 2 lanes of north bound to get to her. Each lane had cars in it so if her light was green I would have hit something long before her. She didn't say much to me after I initially screamed at her. I think she knows she screwed up. Luckily for me she has insurance but no way I'm suing because her address is listed as a trailer park.

Is it possible she entered the intersection before you did?

lawyer up and enjoy your 51% of the settlement related to pain and suffering.

Lawyers here take a third. But yes, I have a lawyer.
What pisses me off is that this is the 3rd new vehicle in a row that has been hit within the first few month of owning it.
Though I'm glad it happened to the truck. If I had been in the mustang I probably would be dead or injured a lot worse.

I'm in Maryland so PA law doesn't apply. I worked with Erie Ins to get my car sent to a direct repair station which happens to be my regular service place anyway. I gave the release yesterday. It will cost me my 500 dollar deductible plus whatever my insurance increases if it does. My adjuster said in all likelihood it will be a non fault accident for me. I still have not heard from the other person's insurance.

Even if the car is fixed I'm strongly considering trading it in. I don't want to be driving something that I know was in a wreck and have complications down the road. I may get a newer VW Tiguan or one of the BMW X1 models that will start appearing in August.
