Much hotter, but check reseller ratings first. Looks like most of the dissatisfied reviews have been because of rebate or shipping issues, and that doesn't seem to apply to this product.

If you're in the market for a 1TB drive, why not pick up the Seagate 750GB for ~$240? If all you need is storage, it's cheaper per gig on that. And still 75% of its capacity. The 500GBs are even cheaper per gig, of course, but if you're low on space and can't have more than one or two HDDs, then they're out.

Regardless, $599 for a 1TB drive is WAY not hot. That $399 from PCConnection is lots warmer. That IS MSRP, after all. This will likely come down in price sooner rather than later.

Here it is for $377 shipped. Out of stock though.

Newegg seems to be one of the only merchants that actually has stock. So the price goes up. Supply and Demand at work.

1000GB converts to ~931GiB, and that's what Windows will report. NTFS should take up negligible amount of additional space that varies based on your file distribution.
