At 5900 RPM, would this drive ever reach SATA III speeds?

Eh ? Show me a non-RAID hard drive that can reach the maximum of SATA II speeds, and no, I am not talking about burst speeds.

Nice deal, but be prepared to deal with DOA drives.

Absolutely not.

SSD's are right about the edge of SATA 2 bandwidth and just getting into SATA 3 bandwidth. A mechanical drive won't. This drive should be used as a storage drive for longer term storage, and less accessed stuff. In other words, a backup drive or server drive. I wouldn't use it for rapidly changing things (database for example), boot, or game/app drive. I would use it to store MP3, avi's, docs, etc that don't change often.

I might pick one or two up OP.

Why? Newegg shipping or what?

Are these drives any good? There aren't any 2TB drives on NewEgg that have a very high rating.

Depends on the warehouse it ships from. The Tennessee warehouse where my last hard drive shipped from was packed well, and double boxed. However I've had some terrible packaging from their New York facility.

Damn, I want 2 of these but can't get the right combination of account info/address/CC stuff to get a 2nd one. Might have to call a friend and try my luck there, lol!

Really would like a RAID 1 backup solution for my house.

Yeah, it highly depends on which warehouse is doing the packing, and then the person doing the packing as well, and finally, what the UPS driver does with the box. However, if it was well packed to begin with, then I highly doubt I would see so many DOAs.

Out of 5 HDs 4 were DOA. This is with 3 different orders at different times of the month.
That includes DOAs from the initial RMAs.

Heh...still says in stock on the product page.

I am hoping to find a good deal on some 2TB drives. But not Hitachi.

i grabbed one. will be my first hitachi drive.

new drives in general perform much better than say, 4 year old drives. i love my samsung 500gb 4 drive raid0. this hitachi seems to have nice transfer speeds also.

i had other drives in sight, like the samsung 320gb notebook at $41, but missed it. this 2tb at $60 was an easy choice.

Poopy! I bought this last night for $79 bux. D:

If you got it from the Egg, you can chat/call and get a $10 credit. If they refuse the first time, try again. Many SD'ers got the credit today!

Is this a good deal or just dumping inferior drives? The DOA rate seems too high.

These are back in stock but now at $100 - $10MIR. I actually wanted to buy a pair and would have been willing to pay $130 for the two AR (one for the $60 shell shocker price and a second for $70 at the pre-shell shocker price). Too late I guess.

Man I wish this had been sold from somewhere else. NE shipping sucks, if you look @ their HD reviews compaired to say eWize HD reviews, NE has like 4 times as many DOA's, lol

NE shipping really needs to improve before I buy another HD from them.
