Is their shipping to blame for the high failure rate? The reviews on eWiz look a little better since they have less clientele, I'm sure.

I was going to go with the 2TB WD drives on the Egg, but I just don't like their rating. I'm going Samsung Spinpoint for my 2TB drives.

My drive arrived today, 1 day after ordering. Shipped from Industry warehouse. Appears well packed, the drive was packed in a little box specifically designed for hds. This box was inturn packed in another box with foam peanuts. Much better than the last drives I got which were taped together and thrown in the box with "airbags" filling the void.

I haven't tried it yet but I'm optimistic given the decent pack job.

Same here. Best drive packaging I have seen from them in a while

Got mine today, shipped from the California warehouse and was beautifully packed. Sealed moisture bag and around that was bubble wrap. That was all inside a cardboard spacer sleeve to keep the drive centered and then the outer box was filled with peanuts. Installed and benchmarked very well. Ahhh, 2TB of yummy goodness.

Question....

I notice the rebate form requests the original serial number of the drive.

What's that mean?

I've scanned the drive's sticker with the serial but is that good enough?

Surely they don't need the original sticker....or do they?

Edit....Do they want the original sticker from the anti-static bag?

From what I have read, yes, they want the sticker from the bag. Make a copy for yourself and send the sticker cutout in (I'll check it out when I get home as mine is being delivered today).

weird, I opened the sealed static bag and noticed some very slight stratches on the top cover in seemingly random spots, like someone slid the harddrive around on a rough table in the clean room or used the top cover from a different drive. at the top of the drive there even looks to be a fingerprint smudge. I wonder if these drives have RMA components in them. anybody have this issue?

This drive is not giving me a warm fuzzy feeling like my samsung F4s...

Might be the best packaged drive I've received from Newgg. Wrapped in bubble wrap, inside of a cardboard hard drive box, packed inside shipping box full of packing peanuts. Will have to try out soon before sending in rebate (can't use my USB docking station as it's only good for 1TB so will have to test right now - will use in SB 2500K build in near future...as soon as I get my replacement motherboard, lol).

I mailed my rebate out yesterday and that's what I did.

Looks spanking to me. I don't think a large company like Hitachi would risk their reputation trying to hawk refurb drives as new. That's something more in line with what a company like OCZ would do.

The price is now down to 79.99 so it's 69.99 AR now. Not as good as 59.99 but you won't be able to drives much cheaper than 69.99.

Nice deal, but be prepared to deal with DOA drives.

You are an idiot. What kind of statement is it?

So WD and Seagate don't produce DOA drives?

Research this before making this kind of vague crap. If you did you'd known that actually Hitachi and Samsung make most reliable consumer drives now.

Maybe you should read the whole thread before flaming.

He was referring to Newegg's shipping tactics. Not the brand if the drive

Damn tax at Amazon kills me!

(Yes, I know that I'm in the minority here but since Amazon has 2 facilities in KY, I have to pay the 6% tax).

Lucky you... here in California we get slapped with about a 10% tax that kills most Amazon and NewEgg deals for us...D::'(
