:disgust::|:frown:

THE PRODUCT: I Purchased the DZ-MV550A NTSC Camcorder (mini-DVD) about 3 months ago from my local Circuit City.

PERFORMANCE: I love the quality of the video and the performance of the camera.

WHY I PURCHASED: I need to take video of horses at horse shows and performance events. I do a disc for each horse. I then need to send that disc (without the camera) to my Marketing Media Specialist to review, edit, and copy on to a standard DVD-R for distribution for a customer's review to potentially purchase the horse.

MY PROBLEM: I am very frustrated for the apparent difficulty to be able to do what I need to accomplish. Through trial, error, and research (and purchase of software), I have found a means to copy the entire VOB onto the hard drive and then copy to a DVD-R, but I have found no means to edit this material.

Can anyone explain to me the process for getting from the disc (without the camera) to a state where I can give a finalized disc to my Specialist to be able to review, edit, and create a final video; save it on her hard drive; and then be able to burn copies on to a DVD for any customer with a DVD Drive to view the disc.

This has cost me many hours of my time and my Media Specialist?s time trying to track this process down (as well as purchasing a new computer and video card for $1,100). I just need to be able to get my process down so we get off to selling horses.

You Anandtech gurus have always been a great help...
I hope you can come through again for me...

Thank You in advance for your input

The Ulead products I use allow this process you are refering to with the possilbe exception of transfering the disk to your client's HDD. I am not sure how you would do this.

If you have the VOB file on a DVD already, you should be able to edit the disk via a software package. I use Ulead Video Studio 8 to capture and edit my video, and Movie Maker 3 to add chapters, menus, and burn. I use Movie Maker to create an image file (ISO) when I need to burn multiple copies of a disk.

My Ulead Movie Maker 3 software offers the option to edit a DVD disk you already have, so this would allow you (theoretically) to enter the disk and make any changes you need to and burn when the process is finished.

You should check out Ulead products. link to ulead

More information can be found here.

Good luck.

Thanks for the initial response...

I believe the Uled 3 was one of the programs we got to... Unfortunately, I am very ignorant of the process...

Unfortunately it kept asking for things like mpeg, and other extensions I am clueless off (UDF? ISO?, IFO?)...

In edit mode all the other options were "grey"ed out ...

I would have thought this should be a relatively easy process... Why is it such a major undertaking??

You will need an NLE that edits MPEG files natively. You can rename the VOB files to MPEG and edit (on HDD). Try videohelp for details and instructions.

My editor, Pinnacle Liquid Edition V6.1, will natively edit MPEG files without loss of quality when burned back to DVD. If I were to convert those to AVI, it will lose quality. There should be other, cheaper editors that will do it. I think Studio 9 does, but never tried it. Ulead may, but no experience with it.

Edit - forgot... Assuming that the Hitachi makes standard VOB files (never seen one)...
