Wouldn't that defeat/debunk his statements? Why would he want to do that? On another note decreasing the shadows if needed to get higher fps doesn't really look to take away from the gameplay aspect.

I'm of course assuming that this forum is about having an informed debate and thus learning something about the hardware/software in question. Alternatively I might be wrong, and it's just one big fanboy war, but I'm choosing to believe that Sontin is better than that.

And yeah, shadows settings are usually the first thing I lower as well when I want better performance, regardless of which game we're talking about

I've just been reading a lot of mixed things for this title. The always on claim seems to revolve around the console versions.

Unless the PC version is different, I read just about all progression requires an online connection. You can do missions offline but it won't count towards anything, I assume unlocking new gear or something.

Just a bunch of complaints I've read.

Indeed, I've also seen that the reviews are mixed. However, most complaints seem to revolve around the always-on thing (which sounds horrible from the reviews), but I've seen lots of praise for the gameplay itself. I've even been tempted to buy the game myself, as I usually don't buy new games unless they're from smaller developers like Wadjet Eye, but so far I've managed to hold out.

I just wanted to post that gamegpu graph, so it seems Hitman shows the same behavior as TR, funny how it was praised earlier for it's exemplary DX 12 prowess.

All of a sudden GameGPU is blocked for me at work

I'm not even caught up on the RoTR DX12 patch issues/narrative.

Hitman shows the same behavior as TR in DX12, performance degradation for both vendors across the board.

I am playing this game of a AMD FX 6300 CPU + 2 GB Radeon R9 270X. I purchased it from Steam but I am only able to load texture in low quality. Medium and high are grayed out.

What the hell.

DX12 clearly needs more time in the oven. I should dig up that list that keeps going around about DX12 games and what not. It's not looking at all pretty right about now.

Meanwhile, you got an SNES-style sprite-graphics Harvest Moon "successor" destroying sales expectations.

Well considering they are the only site to show regression, vs everyone having issues with TR I wouldn't say its comparable.

GameGPU is the only one showing this behavior in Hitman. Computerbase (who I personally trust much more) and PCGH both showed improvements under DX12.

Yeah it seems now devs are adding dx12 as a complete afterthought just to have that box checked.I honestly want to see Rockstar and Blizzard coming with a dx 12 patch but it will probably not happen soon especially Bliz. I mentioned these two studios because they really seem to have any in house QA left these days.

I don't know how GameGPU bench, whether they did manual scene or the included benchmark, but I can definitely say they are flat out wrong.

I've been playing the game awhile. Here's my own results, DX11 vs DX12, R290X @ stock clocks 1ghz core/1.25ghz ram, i5-3570K @ stock clocks.



I let the benchmark loop and look at the FPS towards the end.

DX11, Avg ~63 FPS. Min FPS is not reliable due to the start loading scene dropping min, once it starts, it was never below 40 fps.



DX12, Avg ~80 FPS.



The biggest noticeable difference, during the scene within the crowd, in DX11, I was getting 40-45 fps. In DX12, I was getting 70-75 fps. I kid you not.

Here's the bench result with Ultra + Shadow Map on "Ultra" and Resolution on "High" (max out for DX11).

DX11, Avg FPS ~60.


DX12, Avg FPS ~71.


There is a much higher performance impact for Ultra Shadow Map on DX12 than DX11, compared to the performance loss.

In DX11, we go from 63 to 60, or ~5%. In DX12, we go from 80 to 71, ~15%.

I personally cannot tell the difference so in my gameplay, I run Shadow Map/Res on Medium. :/

Indeed, you can clearly see even the 970 get some major improvements in DX12 vs DX11.

I wonder how these sites do their bench and how they are getting their FPS numbers? It better not be FCAT cos that doesn't work with DX12. -_-

I'm seeing massive gains in gameplay in crowds on my rig.

I really want to buy and play this game but the always on DRM + denuvo drm on top is just no go since the online servers been having extreme problems since launch kicking people out of the game and not letting em have progress.

I wouldn't buy any game that wasn't in a state that I was satisfied. That said, if you wait a bit I'm sure they'll have the server issues sorted.

Good that it's not getting embarrassed by GM204, sure. I'll give it that.

Still, bad that it's getting matched the by the 200$ cheaper R9 390X? It seems more and more apparent Fiji was truly a stop gap and the true next gen was intended for another process node.

And nVidia tends to win in CPU bound situations due to their better driver overhead.

DX11, that seems to be the limit of the CPU at 1080p, for all GPUs, including NV's Titan X.



At 1440p, it becomes GPU bound.



DX12 works well for me, since major gains overall and massive gains during crowded scenes.
