hitting the rev limiter?

I decided i wanted to hear how loud my car was at ~6000rpm without wind noise. It's a 2000 olds alero(2.4L 4cyl, DOHC). i tried this both in park and in neutral, i stepped on the gas(half throttle only) and it started hesitating around 2K rpm, for a second or so, then moved to 3K, hesitated a bit, and then i stopped because i wasn't sure why it was hesistating. Is there some sort of rev limiter in these cars at low rpm, when not in drive? thanks

btw, i'm not going WOT and trying to blow the engine or something, was just curious how it sounded at about 5K rpm, the red is at 6250. Only has 24000km on it

It would sound cooler under a load.

Dump a few quarts of motor oil on your favorite street or parking lot, even your driveway, put it in drive, and step on it.

The smoke clouds would be pretty sweet too, heh.

i may as well add that this car never hesistates like this(seems like the plugs stop firing on some cylinders for a second or so) when i'm driving, just did in park/neutral

There is no rev limiter at low rpm....you are experiencing some other problem.

my car has a rev limiter at high rpm's.. like 6500+

On my Buick Regal the rev limiter would kick in when in park and attempting to go past 4000rpm , yeah, gm cars have a rev limiter when the car is not in gear.

that's what i was told, but i don't know why it would do it at 2K and 3K as well. Maybe it was anticipating it
