6th Ave is an authorized dealer for the HK receiver so there shouldn't be any problems with warranty either.

6th Ave is an authorized dealer. At least their B&M stores in New Jersey are.

Here's a link to their website stating that they are in fact authorized. I'm assuming the HK site isn't an exhaustive list of authorized dealers and since 6th Avenue is a smaller company they're not listed ...

If you're really worried, give HK a call and ask.

I just checked their website and Harman Kardon does list Sixth Avenue Electronics (the local B&M version of 6ave.com) as being an authorized dealer...

Follow this link and type in a zip code in New Jersey like 07043 and select Receivers as your category. One of the first hits should be 6th avenue in Springfield, NJ. Again if you're worried about this, just give HK a call to verify.

When I saw this Jokersmoker post I reflexively thought "hK" was "Heckler & Koch" and imagined a somewhat different kind of "receiver."

Not to detract from the actual topic, but I can't help observe that for aficionados, a $648.25 "HK receiver" of the kind I was envisioning would have been even hotter . . . perhaps UEBERHEISS!

The AVR-525 is the receiver to get. H/K makes some great sounding gear. The replacement for the AVR-525 will hit the shelves in a month or so. H/K has given the receiver a face lift -- and features silver on the bottom half - along with a blue glow around the volume knob. Sure, the new AVR-630 will add a few more watts of power and give you the option of upgrading the firmware (yeah, we've heard that before from other manufacturers) - however, the AVR-630 has a list price of $1,199. At 1/2 the cost, the AVR-525 is the bargain to buy now - while their are plenty available.

I owne the AVR-7200 and kind of wish that I settled on the AVR-525. The 7200 is the "big" brother to the 525 and provides way, way power than I'll ever use.

What would warrant the extra expense of the AVR525 over the AVR325?

I did a comparison on the HK website, and other than HDCD decoding and bass management, they are identical. Will the AVR325 be sufficient if those two added features are not necessities?

You forgot about the fact that the 325 is 55 W/ch and the 525 is 75 W/ch. Dunno if the 325 offers multi-room config; the 525 does.

I think the 55W/ch should be more than sufficient. The multi-room config isn't much of a concern because this is only for the living room, not any other room.

The price difference is about $125. The AVR325 is $450. I just want to know if those few added features are worth the extra cost?

I was looking at these today at CircuitCity and notice they were starting the stock the new versions. I plan to pick one up as they close them out. Great units!
