This is really weird:

HONG KONG, China (AP) -- German and Israeli diplomats have lashed out at a Hong Kong fashion company for using swastikas and other Nazi party symbols in a clothing line and to decorate its chain of stores.

The firm, which calls itself www . izzue . com produced a range of T-shirts and pants with Nazi symbols printed on them. One T-shirt has a portrait of Nazi leader Adolf Hitler standing on a laurel.

Possible, but it isn't as though the Holocaust is something only a westerner would know about and understand. I doubt you will see Armani Exchange come out with a "Bataan Death March" line.

yea but you see the commie symbolism in western society every once in a while, even tho the regimes killed tons of innocent people as well.

also china was not very involved in the holocaust... the reason everybody knows about the bataan death march is because western soldiers were in there.

not saying that this is right in any way, but i seriously doubt they knew what the full significance of all this was.

Cheng added that the designer wanted the clothes to have a military theme and did not realize that the Nazi symbols would be considered offensive.

Wow... do these people learn world history or what?

no, but the emotions that are still present after 60 years that are attached to just the symbol of the nazi party are. over here we're taught about how sensitive an issue it is, etc etc, but for them it's just a part of history.

Read the post in that quote chain that ASKS if they learn world history. You just said that you didn't.

I agree, Cheapgoose. History is told from the point of view of the victors or from the point of view of the narrator. My sister is reading a history novel about what the Americans aren't told. She read out some of the passages. It includes the events of WW II. I said to my siblings: I imagine how much controversy this book attracted.

Basically, I think the business in question should do whatever the hell it wants to do. Capitalism will take its natural cause if people don't like the idea of the clothing and symbol. The consumers should have a choice, for it's their form of free speech too.

Before anyone asks me: Would I object to a KKK symbol being sold by a business for instance? No. Once again, I'm an adamant supporter of the freedom of expression and thought. Free thought and expression doesn't always result in action.

Knowing HOW many is a detailed thought. Knowing that the Holocaust occurred requires much less time and effort. Think about it.
