HL 2 Stuttering Sound/Video

I am running on an Asus A7N8X Deluxe(nForce2, using onboard Soundstorm) with an AMD Athlon 2500+, 1gb ram, and ATI Radeon 9800 Pro.

I have updated to the best sound drivers (also tried the newer ones, with same results), and I have tried the catalyst 4.09 drivers, currently using the 4.12 beta's.

For some reason every few seconds the sound and the graphics will stutter. I tried changing the sound settings from high to low, and it seems to do it at any resolution. Any ideas?

I already tried rolling back sound drivers (among others). I am currently running with the latest ForceWare drivers, and having the same issues. I tried enabling/disabling fast writes, changing aperature size, I also disabled my sound, and it was still having the same issues.

I'm having the same issue FlasHBurN. I have the latest drivers for my Audigy Gamer and GeForceFX 5900XT. I've seen this a few other places also, we're not alone by any means. I'm sure there will be a fix at some point.

 

This is an nForce issue then? I have an A7N8X Deluxe too and have been experiencing the same problem.

I am glad that atleast some others are having this issue. I must of spent like 2 hours going through message boards (mostly nforcershq.com) trying different things, none of which helped. For now I am just going to deal with it. I wish I knew what more could be done.

I don't think it's merely an nforce issue. I'm running the game via my hercules sound card, my a64 mb didn't like the onboard sound. I'm looking around for sound and video fixes. The game is friggin sweet even with some stuttering.

I have the same specs: Barton 2500+, 1GB RAM, and Epox 8RDA+ and had the same issue. I figured it was a hardware issue because if something like that goes wrong, and everything else runs fine, you usually aren't alone.

Different specs, but same problem--and there are a hundred of us on various boards. Haven't seen a solution yet. I'm running an Athlon XP 2100+, a radeoon x800 Pro, a gig of ram, a SB Audigy 2 ZS Plat Pro, and a via 266 mobo.

I tried what someone suggested, adding "-heapsize 512000(or whatever is half of your total ram) and then adding +cl_smooth 0 to the launch properties..and that helped some, but it still stutters occasionally.

I have been hearing about people having problems with the nForce sound processors and that nVidia is going to have to update drivers for the fix.

I get the same with my Audigy 2 and Geforce FX 5950 Ultra. Sounds like it's a global issue.

Yes, I have the same problem Audigy 2 ZS Platinum and Geforce 6800 GT so your not alone guys. Happens often enough to annoy me a lot.

valve has acknowledged a problem with soundstorm, supposed to be fixed shortly

Sounds like Valve didn't test HL2 on some major platforms! Let the patches and bug fixes begin!

cl_showfps 1 I'm willing to bet for SOME of you your just having framrate drops. Oh and a firend of mine had good luck with dropping his sound settings to medium

Pretty much the same setup as y'all. So far no problems at all. At the beginning of the game i did experience some sound stuttering but it's all gone now. As far as the video stuttering is concerned. I did experience that too but only when the game just started loading.
