HL/CS/TFC on Laptop and Windows 2000

I'm running TFC on my Dell Latitude here and whenever I join a server it keeps saying I overflowed after a couple minutes. What's going on??
also the game runs really choppy, with either OpenGL or DirectX as my video mode, i'm using 640x480. Any way I can speed it up? Or is it the OS (Win 2K)? Or does my laptop just suck??

here's the specs:

-PIII 450
-8meg ATI Mobility vid card
-128meg RAM

anyone got any ideas?

What video processor is in the laptop?

If it's an ati - you'll need the ati fix.

Check Sierra's community.sierra.com forum. there's actually a lot of good information about HL/CS/TFC troubleshooting there.

Lots of info about buffer overflows.

Planet Half-Life

Planet Half-Life, Planet Counter-Strike, all the "Planet" sites are pretty good for info. Plenty of links to more dedicated sites. If you don't like Fileplanet downloading, you can at least get the info from "Planet" sites and then go googling for the downloads.

Also check out Sierra Half-Life Community Forum for official fix and release information. There are a few good people there. Helped me quite a bit.

kool, i got the fix, but now, how do i speed up the game??

Well your OS is part of the problem. The ATI RAGE Mobility's 3D performance in Win2K is about 70% of what you get in Win9x.

I also recommend updating your drivers. You are probably using 40xx drivers and should update to 50xx drivers .. so head over to rage3d.com and goto the Rage Pro forum. Many various drivers and tweaking info is posted there.

Oh, make sure your desktop is in 16-bit color, not 32 or 24.
