Last night I noticed that this was now available for pre-loading and pre-purchasing. I have the game fully downloaded and ready to play when it's released. You save 10% over the retail price, too. Hot!

I think Steam said "Coming June 1".

PS -- sorry if this is a repost

$18.00 seems a bit of a ripoff. i think i'd rather buy the headcrab plush instead

It is a repost but there can never be enough Half Life 2 News. I'm sooo excited about episode 1 and I'm intrigued regarding that SiN: Emergence game.

Right, so they found out they can now charge us $2-4 per hours of gameplay - no thanks. There's no way I'm going to pay $20 per "episode" when you've got quality side stuff like Minerva if you really want single player action.

While you may be operating under some crazy anti-HL2 mindset, many of us view $18 as an absolute bargain for some fresh content. It's less than half the cost of a new game. How can you go wrong? It's like your typical PC game expansion (usually $20-30), but instead of just new multiplayer maps or new classes or whatever, it's 6-8 hours of brand-new levels and story.

Sounds good, but I have to agree that $18 is a bit steep. I'll probably still buy it though.

A tad steep, but I'll probably still prebuy and preload (which rocks btw).

Half the new games out today are $50 for about 10 hours of single player play. At $5/hr, THOSE are the ripoffs... this EP1 is priced about right, and should completely own considering how well HL2 was done.

What? So soon?

I would have thought it would take them at least another year to get this one out

At their current rate, we'll all be dead and they'll still be on Episode 5.

It's only 18 bucks people. I can see that being "too expensive" if you're unemployed, but for anyone with a job ,that shouldn't be a big deal.

I just preordered it.

I'm guessing that what is available through pre-load now is just a partial. There may be another pre-load closer to the release date. And then on June 1 it will be unlocked for play. They're allowing you to download what's absolutely final right now, to save everyone some downloading time later on (and to reduce strain on their servers).

Also, as someone else mentioned, to allow tweaking and preparation for retail.

Or if you're like me, and like to take your sweet time through levels and messing with everything, it will probably be 8-10.
