When my brother tried to play cs source, after he clicks on the game this error shows.

HL2 and CS Source are both updated, but heres the error sign.

Change hardware, update drivers (any of them, not jsut video) or do anythign else lately?

If so, use windows roll back.

Are you sure that HL2 and CS:S are completely done updating? When I first got HL2, I noticed that Steam would let me start a game even when the game wasn't fully installed yet.

I re-installed and hopefully it'll work, thanks for the advivce.

What is his rig ? 64 bit ? With the last patch they introduced a bug similar to the one you showed.

WD 80.00GB
ATI Stealth 9800SE
Kingston 256MB PC2700

First thing is to make sure you have the latest service pack, drivers and such.
Then check for viruses (virii?) and spyware/adware. Reboot.
Because of the way these fvcking games run, its not as simple to fix as reinstalling and looking for the latest patch.
Isnt there an option in Steam to verify your files?
