You wish. I'd say they're both about equal, but we won't know until we can play both. Even the biggest jaggies look great when viewed from a distance, and made the image smaller, both done in this video.

Doom3 does look good, but will it play as well? Will it be just your ordinary shoot 'em up with awesome graphics?

Graphics, Physics, STORY, AI. HL2 is most definitely > Doom 3

A lot more screenshots, and a playable alpha which was stunning at the time, and that was last year, plus it was in a small window. Imagine it full screen. Don't get me wrong, I splooged over both of these.

Will the new physics engine make modding difficult? Any ideas on whether a worldbuilder will be released with the game? Linux server editions? I wonder if the worldbuilder will be completely object-oriented...like you have to define the physical properties of objects (wooden box vs. cardboard box vs. steel container, weight, density, solid/liquid, combustible, etc. etc.) before you can place them in a map.

Valve's map creator is called WorldCraft, and it will ship with the game. Certain physical properties are set by the texture that is applied to the object. Apply a texture with a "metal property" and it'll behave like a metal object - hopefully that includes things like weight, durability, sound effects, etc.

Just watched through the slew of demo videos from Gamespot and wow...just wow. I don't know what else to say. This game is going to be amazing.

what you say? :Q "Magno strider weapon"??? Correct me if I'm wrong, but AFAIK the 'strider' is not a weapon...its the REALLY friggin' tall monster on stick legs! I agree about the mods. Actually I'm feeling kinda stupid. By the time the 3rd video link came around...I stopped thinking of HL2 while watching, and started imagining what a Counter-Strike 2 mod would look like on this engine!!

This trailer gave me that same feeling. That the fear of normal humans that are simply hunting you down to kill you is even scarier than a bunch of monsters on Phobos says a LOT about how good Valve is.

Did you all see in video #7, where Gordon is hiding behind an abandoned car, trying to shoot that alien plane with the rocket launcher? In most games, you could wait behind that car all day long and the plane would only attack until you were in view. No, not in HL2! The alien plane shoots the car you're hiding behind with a mini-gun, eating away your metal shelter! BAD ASS!

 

I love the sound of bullets hitting metal. Same sound effects guy from the first on I suppose.
