There are as many types of bars as there are restaurants and/or night clubs. There are probably at least a hundred bars in your city, each catering to a different clientele. There are bars like the one you describe, but the good ones are very fun.

Meh, never found the point of going to a bar just to watch TV. Clubs, while I don't like them anymore, make sense - the hope (as far fetched as it may be) of hooking up with one of the dancing drunkies makes it all make sense, at least on the surface..

I'm 28 and married, and stuck at that awkward face between clubbing and dinner parties.. I would actually love to throw more dinner parties, but all my friends are still clubbing! Everyone's single in NYC, which kinda sucks.

Depends on the bar. I have done hvac at some pretty seedy suburban pubs, I mean when i was working there were people lining up for their 10am beer.

Inner city bars are more social likely

one of the oddest yet funnest bars ive been to was one that catered to the graveyard crews in the surrounding factory area. 6am people were showing up after their shifts ended and drinking.

im not much of a drinker, and i dont go to bars alone but i do like watching crowds. ill go withh a few friends and take in the scenery, usually a good time. i dont like quiet bars either, they are boring.

I like divey sorta bars. Go there with 2-3 friends and enjoy yourself, you always run into interesting people and many times bizarre shit happens. This is the best part.

It all depends on where you live. I have changed the type of bar I go to several times. First was the typical college town bar that was jam packed full of people in skimpy clothes. Next was the trendy bars for those people trying to prove they are better than the people in the first bar by drinking expensive fru fru drinks after they got their first 'real' job after college. Now I go to the less trendy bars that don't offer the super fancy drinks but have long cheap happy hours and actually pay attention to the fire marshalls capacity limit

Bars, clubs, lounges.... very different. Clubs can vary too. You got ghetto clubs where they just have a basement to dance in. Gets all sweaty and nasty. You got the lounges/restaurants that close after 1030 or whatever and turn into a club. A lot nicer. The crowd is usually nicer. Then you got raves and whatever.

Shrug. I usually hit up clubs and I'm Asian but usually they're in lounges, and what 90% of people don't get is they always choose a "venue." They go "Oh that club is nice," but in reality most of the show is run by a promoter. Promoters run the show and they hop around locations. You might wonder why sometimes a location is packed with Asians and next week it's ghetto as hell? Well it's because a different promotion group goes through. If you hit up a place without a promoter group going on, then usually it's a typical crowd. Don't expect anything special. I've gone with clubbing newbs (most girls) and they just pick a venue because lots of people have gone there before. Well, don't be surprised when you see 40 year old creepers coming after the girls, and I'm sent on cockblocking duty. Ugh.

I don't go that often anymore, but when we used to, there were a few promoters sites we would check out. Then we woudl figure out which venues they hit up the next Sat and pick the best out of the list.

Bars on the other hand can vary a lot. You got pubs and you got lounge/bars which are trendier. Pubs are great for watching sports and grabbing some food. Good social scene. You can take friends and just hang out there. Generally gets loud. Lounges when you just want to drink and look trendy. You can do some dancing too. Music is louder. It depends what mood I'm in. Usually the girls pick lounges, but in those cases you'll preparty first so you don't have to deal with $10 drinks. Maybe just 2 or 3 when you're there, but you get a good chunk of alcohol in first.

Meh, I stopped in at a bar yesterday because it was half price night. Got a burger + two vodka drinks for $8 (Plus $5 tip), chatted up a bartender that I know a little, and possibly got a job out of it. I didn't go to get smashed, sometimes good things happen just by putting yourself in situations that don't consist of sitting at home on your ass.

Yeah, I like the smaller bars too. So much easier to get good conversation going with other people, whether it be male or female. I only go to more crowded places when I'm with a large group of people and dancing is involved.

I rarely go in bars, but the ones I've been in are far from what you typically see on TV. In fact I can't say I've seen anyone pist drunk, well maybe a few like that creepy guy that was always at the bathroom when I went. He kinda scared me, I was scared he might touch my penis.

It's funny, but the best bars are really where everybody knows your name. Where you can walk in, the bartender knows you, some of the regulars know you and you can hang out and get taken care of. Throw term limits in there as well.
