Opty 165 should easily reach 2.5ghz+, pentium-d 805, well you better spend about $250 on water cooling and severly overvolt it to get to 4.1ghz..and thats to perform equaly to the opty 165 at around 2.5ghz which it can do on stock heatsink..

Most Powerful-AMD
Stable-Both
Cheap-Intel, unless your overclocking, in which case you need better cooling and a beefy power supply

Pentium-D at 3.5ghz is only a little better 3800+ X2 at stock speeds.

The PD will run much hotter and u will prolly have to get a better heatsink to overclock that much. Now the opty should come with the heatpipe heatsink which would be good at 2.5ghz easy.

Its prolly highly unlikely u will get the 805 to 4.1, and at 2.6ghz the opty will be quicker, and will overclock to that speed easy.

Mine 3800+ x2 is at 2.7ghx stock voltage.
Most will hit 2.4ghz easy at stock, the opty 165 should do even better.

if this is all about gaming and you have $300, get a sc 3000venice and a good gpu and don't worry about this crazy o/cing. a 3000-3200venice, simple but good pci-e m/b with a x1800xt would be much better than a 4GHz 805 w/ a 6600gt for gaming. most games are gpu limited anyway after you have the 3GHz/3000 cpu (unless all you are worried about is fps benchmarks - like with a 3000venic and x1900xt i get 85FPS, but my 3800x2@2.7GHz with x1900xt gets 102FPS, as you can see it doesn't matter).

don't give too much credit to that toms article, there are too many variables out of your control like how much the cpu needs at stock. if it is on the higher side then you are screwed. the 805s run hot anyway. the numbers seem good and all seems great, but i highly doubt they just picked up a 805 and got those results, i am sure they went through more than 1 to get one that used the least amount of V @ stock.

i see you are part of a bf2 clan - i game with bf2 also and when i swapped out my 2.8C P4 to my opteron 144 @2.5GHz i couldn't tell the difference at all in the fps of the game @ 1280x1024. sure my encoding speeds went down as the opteron is equal to about a 4GHz sc P4, but it doesn't translate into much on the gpu end.

hmm
well
you make a good point
but!!!
i want to do multitasking while playing bf2 such as bf2cc (bf2 admin program)
and i dont want things sucj as xfire and other stuff holding me back
yes i am an amd fan! i recommend amd to everyone but.. i need a cheaprig to play bf2 better
anything will be better than
a 9600se
athlon 3000 xp
1gb ram
so....

is 805 and 165 at stock speeds this is for processor only!!

im not wanting info about vid card as i said i have no job but i do have limited funds (weekend job) aka like 100 bux a month on a 4 weekend month so...
im looking far ahead
if those are out of my reach i will get a x800gto and 2gb of the patriot i have listed but im still leaning towards such a cheap processor

what you are doing would be extremely light multi-tasking imo, personally i wouldn't even consider it multi-tasking. go into task manager and see how many cpu cycles that stuff really uses, probably not much.

when multi-tasking i mean when you are encoding video and gaming or using a smt aware encoding program, or using ps/illustrator while encoding, stuff that really uses the hell out of the cpu. bf2cc is not a heavy program and i would say that neither is xfire. in gaming what will hold you back is the gpu.

Not really... just use a 3200+ or Opty 148 instead of the Opty 165, and use that extra money for the video card.

Seeing as you're from Illinois, could you at least make some attempt at proper use of the English language? You're asking for help here. Let's try to make things readable. How about just the topic?

Topic Title: hmm have to configurations one going to be oced or normal p4d rig or opty 165 rig
Topic Summary: hmm which ones faster normally and p4 can go up to 4.1 if needed

Crippling laziness aside (that is, the total lack of capitalization and punctuation), do you seriously not know the difference between "to" and "two"? I'm sure most 10-year-olds can do better than that -- especially the grammatical nightmare that is your topic summary.

It's so embarrassing being American when there are guys from China on these forums doing a better job of typing in English.

edit: Obviously I'm not expecting any more of a reply than a big FU. I'm just saying you should have some self-respect. Do you like looking retarded?

Well if u want a dually u could get the 920, it will be better than the 805 and much cooler.
Otherwise just for gaming the 3200+ will be better (until u start multitasking)
If u cant afford a good cpu and gfx card, its better to get a good gfx card and a slower cpu (assuming u gonna play games lots), games will be mostly gpu limited when u turn on the eye candy. 7900gt are relatively cheap (well depends on how much money u have ) but with all the defects i donno if its still a good choice.

you are pretty stuck in your ways. why do you ask for assistance? the 7800gt is the old model, get a 7900gt, it runs better and is still sli able. in fact any of the higher end nvidia's are, just make sure you get a sli m/b, and a decent psu.
