I have 750$ to spend. I was wondering what if anything you guys thought is a good website to buy from for the max buy for my buck. So far I've seen to be able to get this:
T-bird 1.2 GHz 266 fsb
Some generic mobo, with ddr capability.
128 MB ddr ram.
30.1 Gb IBM 7200 rpm ultra 100 HD

I already have a Radeon 64mb DDR VIVO video card, so I dont need that, i got a crappy sound card that will suffice. So all i basically need is a CPU, ram, HD, and case, perhaps a floppy too. I was hoping to get a p4 with rambus, but I havent found anyplace where i can get all stated above beloow 750$. If you guys could help me out I'd really appreciate it.

true enough, probably the only mobo's out there supporting ddr ram are asus abit, biostar etc....But yeah I definately agree that the mobo is the most important thing, thats why I have to buy a new computer in the first place. So i'm hoping on some recomendations for a good site with some good prices, or what I can hopefully get =).

Ugh never buy generic mainboards.

Since you don't care about backwards compatibility with SDRAM get the MSi K7T Pro. It's a little slower than the AMD760, but it's brand new. It needs newer BIOSes and newer drivers and such. And it's meant to be the mainstream Athlon platform, AMD doesn't want to produce an abundance of 760 chipsets.

I'd try for 256MB of RAM, drop the TBird down to a 1.13Ghz or so if you need to. But get 256MB...128MB will not be enough for WinXP/2k. And WinME/98SE is going to die out soon.

for the love of God, dont say generic mobo. look around at reviews for ones with the best performance and stability.... talking from experience here, as about 2 1/2 years ago my parents got a lame CTX computer, and i just now figured out the manufacturer of the mobo....which doesnt support the board anymore.

Monarch Computer has nice built to order systems.

The mobo is old, old kt133 chipset, that by the way doesnt even run the 266fsb Tbird you chose. For the love of god just build the system yourself, you get better prices, more choices, get it faster and it costs less.

go with this,

Axia 1 gig Tbird (266fsb) ~200
Asus a7v133 mobo (from newegg) ~130
256mb infineon ram (instarain or bonkers325) ~90
antec sx830 case ~90
40gig 7200rpm maxtor HD in hot deals forum ~150?

660 bucks for a kickass system that now would even beat a ddr based solution.

btw: the axia will probably do 1.4 gigs!
