The man is dead because they attempted an armed robbery. They are responsible for the death, not the store owner.

The homeowner should not be charged, since he acted appropriately.

The surviving thief should be charged with robbery, burglary and assault--which he is being charged with--but not murder, because that doesn't make any sense. They were all adults, so this case should be pretty cut and dry.
