Actually there are HOA's in FL that have rules no one under X years of age is allowed.
It was a while back but some grandparents had to take their grandkid in. They got caught and were in the process of being kicked out.

I remember this story.

Hmm, story doesn't mention building fires.

What is HOA?

HOAs were invented by developers who didn't want any expressions of individuality to muddy up their developments while they were still selling the lots. Thirty years later, the residents are stuck with the dumb rules originally designed to protect the developers' marketing image. Developers also discovered they could could build sub-standard roads and common utilities and stick house buyers with the long term costs of maintaining/repairing/rebuilding these roads and utilities.

1) Form LLC
2) Build crappy development with crap roads/utilities
3) Form HOA
4) Assign roads/utilities to HOA
5) Sell lots
6) Dissolve LLC
7) Enjoy big bag of money with no liabilities

LOL. What amazes me is people actually pay a premium to live in an HOA neighborhood. Lots on my street sell for $150K/acre in the HOA development. My lot was only about $20K/acre and literally the only difference is HOA vs non-HOA. But hey, if you want to pay a hundred grand to have someone tell you how to live, more power to you

I believe it is, it's a contractual agreement for living there. That's not to say that if the people wanted to they couldn't fight to get it changed, but my guess is since it even went into affect, there's a lot of old people without kids living there.

Bring it to court, argue that the HOA, by imposing this requirement, harms the children by promoting decrease physical activity, leading to health consequences. Can even sue for damages.

Easy win.

I have only seen a few of your post but they all seem to lack intelligence and common sense, is that a common theme of your life?

Why? Because for $200/month I get water, trash, recycling and yard maintenance all taken care of. Not all HOA's are created equal though and part of the buying process should be to check out the HOA and make sure it's something you can work with. Shit like the OP is ridiculous and anyone with a right mind would realize the absurdity of it, but that's far from the norm.
Cheaper to just pay the bills directly and hire someone.

Define "eye sore"? Like you don't like the color they choose or a hugh hole in the roof?

The City, County, Health board, etc... do everything most Pro-HOA people bring up. I have no HOA but sent a single e-mail to the county that made my neighbor take care of a broken down car on the side of his house. Mind you I asked him about it and over a year later did nothing, unlike many HOA people that don't talk to their neighbors they just change the rules or come up with BS.

Eye sore as in un-mowed lawn, brush and vines growing up the house, shutter fallen off, trim that is badly rotted... leaving months of the free weekly papers laying rotting in the driveway... Yes.. some is against town code, but the minute they get warned by the town, the lawn gets mowed. So in this case the eye sore isn't based on color choices, etc but absolute garbage living in the house.

Pretty sure it would be much cheaper to pay for those services individually. Probably like half that.

Then whats the problem? If they get enough of those warnings they get fines and then the city/county will just mow it and send a bill.

Watch the video:

The facility where they live is basically an Apt complex. I would say the majority of the kids are in rental units and not owners.

The kids use the parking lot - the only common area - to play and ride there bikes/skateboard/scooters on.

There are no real sidewalks. Its not a kid friendly complex.

I don't side with the HOA but its not an ideal child friendly area -

There's a LOT more to it then just that. The entire outside of my house and property is maintained by the HOA from painting, gutter cleaning, pressure washing. We're a small community of 35 houses on one circular street. I have 0 obligations for any outside maintenance, I'm still responsible for structural issues and my roof should there be any damages.

I can understand skateboards with all the jumping and wooden noise, but the others are quiet unless you're with a group of kids yelling and screaming while biking, etc. My neighbor kid skateboards in front of nearly everybody's house, sidewalk and street, which is still somewhat tolerable (in the winter with windows closed) but when he pulls out the hollow wooden box ramp on his driveway it drives me nuts. Imagine someone banging on a box every few seconds for hours straight. I told him it was really loud and he put it away, that 1 time. Then he continued to use it every day after. But at least for not as long anymore. I hope this stays because warm weather is coming and my windows will have to be open (no I don't do CAC all day). Bottom line, have some human decency & consideration for others.

Anyway, HOAs often go overboard. It's like renting an apartment or leasing a car and having restrictions. Ball-playing - maybe if near other people's cars and windows. Anything else is just asking families not to be families enjoying their property.

Eye sore as in un-mowed lawn, brush and vines growing up the house, shutter fallen off, trim that is badly rotted... leaving months of the free weekly papers laying rotting in the driveway... We're in a pretty nice typical suburban neighborhood and this one house way down the road has half a rusty car sitting on a ramp in his driveway. Half of it is completely gone - removed. The rest is bare rusted metal. It's completely bizarre that someone would see this as acceptable and neighborly. The least he could do is use a tarp when not messing with it. Some people simply don't give @ shit.

HOA Bans Just About Everything Fun A Kid Might Do Outside

http://consumerist.com/2013/03/18/hoa-bans-just-about-everything-fun-a-kid-might-do-outside/

According to WPTV, residents received a letter last week alerting them to a change in policy that banned just about anything with wheels — skateboards, roller blades, bicycles, scooters — along with toys and ball-playing, from the complex’s roadways, walkways or common grounds.

The HOA president stands behind her door and yells at the camera, “There is no comment! Don’t you understand?”

Yep; HOA is looking out for you, pay your dues and get off my lawn. :whiste:

While extreme ... I wish my HOA as more like this.

You wouldn't understand until you saw it ...
