I sure do love the Holden interiors though.

So what other 400hp car is there for ~32k?

And that 100hp is worth the 10grand premium over the Mustang GT?

The GT starts at 25K making it a difference of only 7K. Not only that but the GTO's do offer incentives and there is also room to haggle. So you could possible end up snatching one for well under 30k.

As always on Anandtech, it's not about the numbers. The ride quality with it's independant rear suspension and higher quality interior adds to the price. If you had experience with both then it would be very easy to spot.

Dear GM,

Please just bring it over and leave it the fvck alone, except for what's necessary to pass North American safety & emissions.

that's part of the problem, there should have been a lower cost option for 26k-28k or so, in keeping with the spirit of the original GTO.

Dear MFH,

We are so sorry. As you are well aware. We, here at GM, are unable to comply with your requests. Sure, we'll bring it over..........but...........once we're done with it, it'll look almost exactly like a cross between a 1999 Chevy Malibu and 2001 Caprice Classic. We'll, obviously, integrate some Altezza tailights as we KNOW that's what the world wants these days and we'll also be introducing an entry-level version that includes full-wheel composite, (plastic) hubcaps including a half & half version of the GM/Holden logo extending from one valve stem to the other.......(yes, we're going over the top now w/ 2 valve stems per wheel in the name of higher performance!) When we get done with it Mr. MFH, it will be the envy of the entire world and we know........because we're GM!!!!!!!!!

It certainly won't be able to match the 1995 Geo Prism in terms of quality.

The GTO didn't sell because it looks mediocore, is not a big performer outside of a straight line and is overpriced.

again, name a car with as nice of an interior and as powerful, with a usable second row, for the price of the GTO.

it didnt sell because GM never advertised it, at ALL.

i highly doubt it.

Exactly. Has any Pontiac ever been significantly cross-shopped w/a BMW?

Isn't that what Cadillac is for?

VWAG has Lamborghini, and Bugatti...

Fiat has Ferrari

Porsche has, Porsche.

I think Pontiac is the closest GM has to BMW, as strange as that sounds... Cadillac and Buick both have the grandpa stigma. BMW is sports-luxury, and Pontiac is GM's line of sporty cars.

Maybe they're trying to bump Pontiac up a notch on the luxury scale, because despite being a sports car brand it really offers nothing more than Chevy, and Chevy even goes a step further with the Corvette.

And a Boxster for much less. Primary point is that they're not a budget brand...

I think Cadillac has done a decent job of reinventing itself. Outside of those who are only buying the badge, I think many BMW-shoppers actually do (or should) give a second look at whatever the competing Cadillac is.
