Hollywood video 99 cent rental !!!!

I got this coupon in my mailbox and it look like my whole neigborhood who is HV member got the coupons because I found one more set outside our mailbox (BTW I live in Apt building)

can you guys scan a clearer and smaller version of this coupon. i took this to the local store y'day and it was not getting scanned at the counter. howevere they were kind enough to accept it this time. last time, somone had posted a version with very clear barcode and it worked like magic.

Thanks for the post flippo!! I just got back from Hollywood Video - where I had used the same type of coupons before when they were mailed to me directly 1st class USPS. I printed it to the exact dimensions posted by GtPrOjEcTX (Thank you!) on 110 pound paper (probably a little thinner than the original). Too bad I didn't have the back-of-the-coupon jpg to duplex on the other side...

But anyway, the clerk looks at it really hard and then flips it over to see the blank side of the coupon and then asks "Did you get this from the Internet?" - and I said "Is it valid?". He kind of smiles and says "OK, for this one time only". I've got to give Hollywood credit for taking the coupon - I would rent from them more often, but their policy of letting people keep first-run videos for five days means that everytime I go to rent from them on Friday, everything is cleaned out until the new Tuesday releases get returned on Saturday! - if they would just have more new release DVDs for rental, then I would rent from them rather than Blockbuster.

He runs the coupon under the scanner - and it scans perfectly - no problem-o. But as I'm leaving the store, he's typing on their computer terminal - possibly alerting HQ that the "Anandtech effect has spread to the Midwest"...


On another topic, there's a sign at my Blockbuster that says they honor competitor's coupons...

Used mine they had to manually put it in... but it work 3 new releases for $3 and change!

Same here..they had to manually enter it whcih makes me feel that they wont accept it everytime. I think the problem is in the bar code. It is not clear in any of the above links. Can flippo or someone scan it a bit clearer. Or has anayone managed to get the coupon scanned without problems ? If so, from which of the above links did u get your coupon from.

Eh, it worked for me 2 days ago, and it scanned perfectly. Just use res 300 in Photoshop and it should be fine.

guys, this is kinda a ymmv deal.
i have used these without any probs but even when the scans were perfect
the clerks have not been consistently accepting these from everyone.

anyways, i sharpened the coupons i host so scanning should not be
an issue anymore. If they have the actual intent to accept the coupons,
they would allow it whether or not the scans go through.

I recently found a Hollywood Video near my house that rents DVDs and videos for 99 cents all the time and video games for $2.99 (also found like 3 stores that don't). It's too bad all their stores don't do it, maybe BlockBuster would be forced to drop their prices a bit. For now, I'll drive the extra 10 minutes to get DVDs for 99 cents

This LEGALLY will not work. The manager at my two stores here in San Jose, CA have said that the coupon needs to be on the correct paper they issue it on.. Which is a cardboard kind of thing. I get these in the mail like twice a year. Do not be surprised if this doesn't work.

This may vary from store to store. Maybe in your local area, there are too many people using this coupon and the mgmt may be pissed off. No problems in my area (ATLANTA) . It works fine.

I work there.. it really depends on where you go and who your working with. I know that we don't take copies and we got yelled at by the manager for taking in a few of these. it's basically a YMMV kind of thing. I personally don't care, i once ask a guy where they got it from, he said an email from hollywood video. I laughed and said in my mind.. "yea right" if their honest i'll say cool. of course when there is a manager next to me, i won't do it.

just print it out on thicker paper and color, and just say you got it that way or something. sure can't hurt, instead of paying 12.36 you pay 3.24 (washington tax)

I just returned from Hollywood Video. Worked fine, I rented 3 DVDs. They didn't even question the coupon, I asked if I could use it, and the lady said sure. $3.21 for 3 DVDs. And I had 2 dollars on an old gift card.

the last one was smaller and their scanners took them easily.

oh well. gonna go give it a shot
