Hollywood Video is having one of their rare previously viewed DVD and VHS sales. Started today.

DVD - 2 for $20 - sale for PV DVDs ends 01/01/2002

VHS - 4 for $20 - sale for PV VHS ends 01/07/2002

And here's something I found out when I stopped by: Those DVD's *without* the cover artwork are selling for 2 for $10. They still come in a DVD case but only have the basic Hollywood Video label on the cover.

So I was able to pick up 13 Days and Crouching Tiger for $5 each! There were not too many coverless DVDs but it's worth checking out if you don't mind the vanilla wrapper. This was not listed on the sale signs so you might want to check with your local store first.

For those of you that got in on this deal, what shape are the DVD's in? Any scratches? Prinstine condition?

I looked at Tomb Raider and Heartbreakers last night for a bit and the discs looked spiffy clean and played fine. There's a 30-day return guarantee if it doesn't play, so you should be safe.

The only bad thing is that the printed materials (booklets, chapter listings) weren't in the cases on the 2 I looked at. Not critical, but slightly annoying. Of course, for $10, the disc itself is what matters, so I'm cool.

actually, with HV, it's a lifetime return policy (or rather, a lifetime guarantee policy)....if it ever goes back, return it for a different copy (or a different DVD if they don't have that one)

I don't think you need a membership. I've never had to pull out my card when buying used DVD's or VHS movies there before.

Membership required??! Naw...This ain't Costco. The only reason
they require membership in the first place is so they can track
you down if you don't return your rentals. Nothing to return
here, so no membership required.

I just saw a commercial for Blockbuster last night saying that if you buy 2 previewed movies you get the third free. I called my local blockbuster and they said that they have the 2 for $20 deal. You might want to call your local Blockbuster to make sure though. Happy holidays!

I walked in to return some video and was hit by the sale signs today.

Got 4 VHS movies for my mom. Unfortunately, the Hollywood in my town has a really crappy DVD selection (although excellent VHS selection).

only a couple of my DVD's had inserts. Doesn't bother me but just thought I'd let everyone know that most of the inserts will NOT be included.

Man... I waited too long. Most of the DVD's were sold. There was about thirty left! I did manage to get Planet of the apes and Unbreakable. I was looking for Snatch, but it was gone. I'll try other Hollywood Video stores.

Got Memento, CastAway and Bridget Jones' Diary for $30 plus tax.
Also got a Suzuki motorcycle Dreamcast game for $6 brand new.
Can't complain...
