Hollywood Video Previously viewed DVDs 2 for $20 and VHS 4 for $20 Sale

It is an AWESOME deal on many newer DVDs . . . I got Final Fantasy for $10 . . . lots of fairly NEW 'just out' titles . . . gotta check several Hollywoods 'cause some have a (much) better selection than others.

They have a LIFETIME replacement warranty (keep your receipt).

Last time I'll mention it. . . . TEN DOLLARs a DVD. . . . Life time warranty!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am heading to ANOTHER Hollywood to enlarge my DVD collection. I believe the sale ends Jan 1 on DVDs . . . the "good" ones will be gone long before that.

Ive hit 4 hollywood vids in socal.
Problem is, at both hollywoods, a majority of the titles were in alternate boxes. Ie, just the cover, no inserts. I havent seen many movies that ive wanted in the original case Also, a word to the wise, check every box, i bought Being John Malkovich, and when i got home, the box was EMPTY. Doh! I called immediately, but with xmas traffic, I wasnt going back to return it last night. The guy on the phone made it seem like this has happened before.

Anyway, of the 6 titles ive gotten (malkovich, POTA, Final Fantasy,Space Cowboys, 13 days, 3000 graceland) all have been in good shape (expect for the ghost of john malkovich). Im in this for the movies, so the inserts are not that big a deal for me. Ive seen a couple of straggler older movies like galaxy quest. In the 4 stores ive been in, i havent seen anything as sweet as the godfathers. Lucky dogs.

In So Cal HV. Picked up Final Fantasy and Planet of the Apes DVD. Picked up Chocolat , Pollack, Crouching Tiger, The Story of Us on VHS. The store in Palos Verdes has a HUGE selection of DVDs. There exchange policy is great! They even let u return it if it's been opened. There's no cash refunds though.

That is what they were all marked at . . . the SALE price is 2 for $20 with a lifetime exchange warranty.

Edit: Oh yeah, "shake" the box in the store to tell if there is something inside . . . open them in the parking lot to be sure it is in good condition. All my disks have been pristine condition . . . some even with inserts (there is a "buy 4 get 1 free" promo from FOX DVD - might be able to "work" that in somehow, also).

Just a note, went to my local Hollywood Videos (two of them) and they still had some decent titles left. I grabbed:

I might go back and grab some more...

Too bad none had Planet of the Apes, I was hoping to acquire that movie for cheap...it's not worth the $22 they are selling it for at Best Buy.

The good: the VHS selection is good, the VHS sale (4 for $20) is on till 1/6/2002

The bad: the quality isn't great (VHS tapes are worn), dvd's that look new (partially sealed, has inserts) aren't really new once you look at the bottom of the disc, dvd's are all picked over, DVD sale ends tomorrow

Definately open your dvd's. The two guys working there said that there have been problems with people sticking AOL cd's in there as well as the dvd's just being plain gone.

ALSO look your VHS tapes over well. One of mine was busted and I had to go back. It was the last one so I had to wait for someone to repair it.

All THREE Hollywoods I bought DVDs from said LIFETIME warranty. KEEP YOUR RECEIPTS!!!

So, if I scratch one I don't like - accidently - I can exchange it (for another title if they are out of that particular one next year).

I went back to Hollywood today and saw they put up some more DVD titles (I picked up Cast Away and Bounce ). The employees there said sale ends tomorrow, and all DVD's are covered by a lifetime warranty. If it doesn't work, bring it back, and they'll replace it or give you store credit.

There is a NEW sale beginning tomorrow - 25% off selected (previously viewed VHS "greatest movies of 2001" - DVDs excluded) . . . So hurry!

Actually the wording in their booklet is ambiguous - it mentions a "sale" on DVDs also.

This is, apparently, a kind of road show that they take from store to store, spending several days or a week at each store. They even have a special truck wi th a painted sign that they park near the road while the sale goes on. Then, after a few days, they pack it up and move to another location.

Presumably, each store adds their excess pre-vieweds to the dross that goes from store to store. Moral of this story: call your local store and ask when the sale will be there, and be at the sale on the morning of DAY ONE, before the good stuff gets picked over.

The deal is "officially" over, but you may be able to still pick up some leftovers in some Hollywood locations.

A warning....be sure to make sure to know what you are buying. I bought the "Mummy Returns" along with 3 other titles thinking it was an awesome deal only to find out that MR was the crappy fullscreen transfer (Pan & Scan) Watched the movie and then returned it, saying it was scratched. They just refunded my money...there were no widescreen versions for sale.

Some of you may be able to return titles you don't want. YMMV, of course.
