Went to see Great Big Sea last night. Good show, and even though they're doing OK these days (certainly not eating ramen noodles) I wanted to buy a shirt or CD to help them out. And then, bam, most of the shirts were $50 or more. Even the cheap ones where only women's XXS were left still were $30. Have I really been out of the loop for that long and now the old fart talking about how concert shirts used to be $20 or so?

Limited edition, let's do some simple addition
Fifty dollars for a T-shirt, that's just some ignorant bitch - shit.
I call that getting swindled and pimped - shit.
I call that getting tricked by a business.
That shirt's hella dough
And having the same one as six other people in this club is a hella don't

I don't know what all of that means but I think it means don't buy one... I wouldn't.

I'm all about artists making money but that's just crappy.

I've been more or less against going to big name concerts as high as the ticket prices are.

Get better taste in music and the t-shirt prices you see at concerts will be lower...

The business model has changed. People don't buy albums like they used to so they have to get their money from the touring side, the tickets and merch.

Paid $30 bucks for The Black Crowes t-shirt last night. Max was $60 for a full length sweat shirt.

Yeah, I love band shirts too, but I refuse to buy them anymore, they are just too expensive. I still do buy CD's though, as long as they're not more than $15 or so. (Not at concerts of course, just from record stores)

It wasn't any different in the '80s. I remember paying $40 for a shirt at concerts back then. I didn't buy many I can tell you.

The market will adjust prices if necessary. If people think $50 is too much for a Tee(I do), the price will drop.

Were the Tees at least Canadian made? I might give them a pass if they were supporting their neighbors. At those prices, I always check the label, and if I don't agree with the materials/manufacture, I won't buy at any price.

Great Big Sea should tour with Reel Big Fish.. that's the extent of my contribution to this thread.

Considering that concerts in the 90's cost like $50 or less and shirts $20 it makes complete sense that shirts should cost $50 today and concerts today as much as $350 for shitty bands.

/sarcasm

I haven't been to a concert in forever and I used to go to them almost every other month. This summer I'm doing music festivals since you at least get your money's worth. 3 days for like $150 and tons of bands.

It's the rare concert I'm inclined to go to anymore. I got tired of being treated like a criminal after giving them $60+ to go. I now only go to more high brow events, smaller venues, and bars.

I don't understand why people buy ANYTHING at concerts or sport events.

I simply refuse to!!! And yes we sneak drinks/snack in......I will NOT pay $5 for water or a hot dog. Screw that.

T Shirt? Even at 20-30 it's overpriced TO ME. HELL no

Festivals SUCK. Way too overcrowded...with shitty people.....stage 10 miles away .....and usually not enough facilities to handle such massive amount of herd.

Although I partially agree they're way better in Europe. You gotta be into the music and the atmosphere though. I'm bringing a tent and my girlfriend and it's going to be very fun. It's probably even better single.
