Edit: read that wrong

Well, since everyone here plays lagless LOD as you say, you should probably try posing this question to a D2 classic forum or get LOD.
I didn't say it was lagless, I said it was so easy you're less likely to notice small spats of lag. Try reading. While you're at it, read the forum title and notice how it covers this topic? Wow, reading really IS fundamental!

Unless the game being easy means I'm playing drunk or similarly impaired, that makes no sense at all. Not to mention you can easily make LOD hard depending on how you want to play.

Everyone here has said lag on bnet isn't a big issue. So if you want possible solutions or receptive ears for your complaints, this isn't the place. That's all I suggested.

Most have said lag's there but not an issue (likely due to LoD), there's that reading thing again... you really should work on it. It's never too late.

Lag's a big issue for classic players and a damn good reason not to buy D3 when it comes out.

Mind going into detail? PM me if you want. Thanks.

"Warden," which is the program they run to detect and ban for all sorts of hacks and such, has been off this entire ladder season. In other words, free for all. That's no longer the case. Warden has been responsible for the past couple of years' mass bans. It was turned back on a few days ago, which isn't good news for people running 3rd party programs.

Thankfully, I've been so busy with other games, I haven't played D2 in weeks.

Yeah, there's that reading thing again alright...

The lag for D2 isn't exaggerated. I would constantly get timeouts, disconnections, and other annoying long lag periods. Needless to say, I put my D2 CD back in it's case. This was a few weeks after D3 was announced.

However I play WC3 fairly regularly, and never get lag there. Me thinks the D2 servers are just crap.

i think it takes something liek 2000 baal runs to get from 98 > 99 so even with a leech bot that's gonna take quite a while

though hccl is for the real d2 players

Too bad you have to pay for Bnet when SC2 and D3 comes out.

Source?

yeah, last i read they were still "thinking about it" but didn't outright say it was going to be definite.

as far as i had read, they really weren't sure what business model they were going to use (ads vs pay2play vs whatever else...)

I wouldn't worry too much about it. Blizz recently clarified their stance on the b.net fees in an interview with Joystiq. They said that the fees will be for administrative services like name changes or server changes like the stuff they have in WOW now. They saw what happened with Hellgate London and they don't want to go down that path.

Quote:

So Julian Wilson told us that you guys are looking monetize Battle.Net in some way. Is that right?

Wow, that's an evil way of putting it. Julian's turning into a business guy on me. Here's the way I would put it. We're definitely not looking at turning Diablo into a subscription based game. It's clearly not an MMO, so it's not appropriate to do a business model like that. The way we approach all of our games now, is we come up with what we think is a great game, and then we wrap the appropriate business model around it. If that's just a box price, then that's that.

With Battle.Net we're definitely looking at possible different features that we might be able to do for additional money. We're not talking about Hellgate or anything like that. We're not going to tack things on. I think World of Warcraft is a great example to look at. We charge people if they want to switch servers or if they want name changes, things that aren't core to the game experience, they're really just optional things that some people want. It takes us some development work to do it, so it makes sense to charge for it. We would never do something like say to get the full game experience, you'll have to pay extra.

I saw lag issues in battle.net. It was off and on, but this was after D3 was announced and I get the feeling they didn't have the infrastructure in place for a mass flood back to D2. Battle.net is certainly well beyond it's years, it's such a shitty game browser hah. I wish they'd do the overhaul now for people playing current games to test on.

nevermind, battle.net does suck LOL: http://battle.net/

"As part of our continued effort to ensure a fair and fun online experience for all Battle.net players, we have expanded our efforts to remove cheaters from StarCraft and Diablo II. We have identified and closed over 350,000 StarCraft and Diablo II accounts which were found to be using third-party hacks."

bunch of people including a lot of my friends and one of my accounts got nuked. a whole lot of jsp users got nuked. my druid acct is still strangely alive though.

I wonder if they'll get worried that people might migrate from the subscription-based WoW to the supposedly one-time fee Diablo 3. And for that reason only, put in a monthly fee for battle.net.

lol... I'll still have my accounts, yay. I haven't signed onto them in at least a few weeks. I don't know how I'll play though since I only use D2Loader.

I think the Kotaku article about this mass banning puts it best, "We won't miss you, you cheating sons of bitches". If only call of duty (and other punkbuster games) could take a lesson from the Blizzard book.
