They have been selling for $40-50. The sims in them are unlocked and can be swapped on straight talk to any smartphone just like the BYOD sims. So if you really wanted to get straight talk, sell your BYOD sims and get nokia e71's with swappable sims. You just would have to cut them to microsim size.
I'm assuming they're $40 because the original owner *already did this* and is just unloading the now-useless ancient Nokia device.

The SIM in the Nokia phone is tied to the account for the Nokia phone. It is 1 sim per device. You cannot get a SIM, put the SIM in another phone and sell the Nokia phone to someone else. If someone else activates the Nokia phone, the 1st SIM will become deactivated.

It is 1 SIM per phone and that SIM is tied to that phone. If you were to buy the nokia e71, you would take the SIM card out of the phone and put it in whatever phone you want. The actual nokia phone, you would have to keep and put it in a drawer or something. You cannot give it away as then your sim would become deactivated.

Make sense? So, no the owner of the e71 did not just get a free sim and sell the phone. It is not possible.

Er. I just looked into Net-10 (didn't know about it before) and it looks like all new SIMs and phones are on TMobile's network. All their SIM pages refer to TMobile SIMs and TMobile compatible phones. They're even touting that you can get/keep 4G if you use a TMobile compatible 4G phone.

If that's true, then it looks like the Nokia option (or the $100 StraightTalk SIMs) are about all that's left for AT&T prepaid?

Check ebay, amazon, or any dealer website. Net10 att sims are everywhere. They cost $1-5 each.

Even the Walmart and bestbuy website still have them listed. They might even be in store.

Also there are other att mvnos but they only offer 1gb of data and cost $55-60/mo making them more expensive so most people don't bother with them.

so whats everyones thoughts on net10 vs ST?

Im checking out net10 right now, and if you want to use an ATT sim, you are limited to 1.5gb (but i think you might be able to tether on att net10)

t-mobile net10 is unlimited, but does not allow tethering, but do they really crack down on this?

How is net10 with customer service. In particular - porting numbers over and also the chance of them dropping you out of nowhere because of using too much data (and therefore losing your number).

I think the only real reason i prefer ATT is because where i like ATT's service is a little better than net10. Im also able to use a microcell to get service at my moms house (just manually add your ST number to get it to work.)

Whats everyone think? I have 3 or 4 ST ATT sims that i might sell. Once you have used one once, can you re-use it with a different number, or port a new number to it. If so i have another ATT ST sim.

I'm also looking for advice on this whole Net10/ST/AT&T fiasco. I'm using ST on the AT&T network. I've got no complaints/problems and I prefer AT&T because my work takes me to remote locations with AT&T coverage but not T-Mo.

1. What's the deal with Net10 and AT&T sims? Net10 doesn't appear to offer AT&T sims directly, but you can still buy them relatively cheaply on Ebay, Amazon, etc. Is AT&T still supplying sims for Net10, or are the alternative supplies slowly drying up? Is there a rush to buy a Net10 AT&T sim now before they're gone like ST?

2. I'm using a nearly 3-yr old Galaxy S (Captivate). Still works, but I'm getting anxious to buy an S3 or N4, but I'm leery of cutting my ST sim to micro-sim size now that I can't get a replacement. What's the success rate of cutting the sim down to size using the cutters they sell on Amazon (assuming I don't spaz out while I'm doing the cutting)? Would I be better off just getting a Net10 micro-sim?

1. They are leftover inventory that vendors have. People aren't really in a rush to buy net10 SIMs like ST, but they could/will eventually run out? If you are worried just buy a 5 pack for $5.

2. I used one of those (the noosy brand one). Just make sure you do not cut any of the metal contacts. I noticed depending on the SIM, if you push the sim all the way in it will be right on the edge of the metal or close to it. Pull the sim out slightly and then cut and you should be fine.

1. T-mobile's own prepaid watches tethering by looking at the useragent of your web browser (which can be changed, google it). Not sure if their mvnos do this too, probably.

2. Net10 and ST are owned by the same company. I would expect CS to be the same (awful), but once service is running it should be fine.

3. There is a cap now on net10, so how they would disconnect you for using too much data? Even ST doesn't kick people off anymore, they throttle.

4. Sell 3-4 SIMS at $100/ea = $300-400
Buy 5 net10 SIMs for $5.
I think the math says it all.

OR buy net10 sims, try the service out for 1 month on net10 and keep your ST sims as backup. Then sell the sims later after you like the net10 service?

5. SIMs are one time use. You would have to get a new SIM to port a new number to it.

Thanks ImDonly. I went ahead and bought 5 Net10 sims for $5. It's a small investment for peace of mind. Once I pull the trigger on a new phone I'll try cutting my current sim down. If I mess it up, I've got 5 Net10 cards to work with.

I wanted to connect a couple of my iphones to straight talk and I found out they switch to TMobile and the Sim Cards were being sold on ebay for alot...After a few months of contemplating on spending alot of money on the sim cards I went back to straight talk website and saw they were selling ATT sim cards for ATT and TMobile again...So don't buy them on ebay!!! I bought 2 and it was the same price...$14.99.

The only problem I have with ST is that they'll limit your account or totally kill it if you're using too much of the network in your area, be it data, minutes, or messages. I was reading their terms and service. I didn't like any of what I read there.

I just checked Ebay and new Straight Talk AT&T sim card activation packages are going for about $100 now. I have unopened microsim kit I bought for $5 as backup during their promotion sale last year. I know couple of people here also ordered some for backup during that sale. Now might be a good time to unload it.
Get it on the Straight Talk website. I have an ATT Iphone and I just bought 2 the other day...

ST is not for you if you're a data hog. However average user it works great.

Do you perhaps know what their cutoff limit is? I mean I rarely go over 4-5 GB in a month. Would that upset the ST gods?

On a ATT sim, yes. On a Tmobile- maybe. The unofficial cutoff is around 2gb a month last I heard. Its more than that as well. If you use more than 100mb in a day for multiple days straight I understand you may get a call. Needless to say you don't go with ST for the 'unlimited' data. You go 'cause its far cheaper than post paid service.
