It is nice, but does it use 3D acceleration for that or not? I ask because it will be interesting to see how Microsoft compares with their 3D OS rendering in Longhorn once it hits.

Yes, it's OpenGL. I suppose I could write something similar, but having this built-in is awesome, and much faster.

LOL! Daylight Saving Time ceased, therefore my post is no longer first.

Since I posted at 1:40AM, posts at 2:10 AM are before, because it's actually 1:10AM. Clocks rolled back an hour.

I woke up today thinking, "Oh crap, slept in too much" but then I saw the time on my computer. Daylight savings time rocks!

And yes, Exposé rocks even more. The cool part is the fact that all video continues to play in Exposé mode, as you can see in the video.

I'm glad Apple/Jobs pushed so hard to have OpenGL acceleration in the OS so early (2002). A lot of Mac types were P.O.'d because their relatively recent hardware simply couldn't make use of it. Sure the OS ran on laptops with Rage 128 video, but it was slow. ie. You need a Radeon just to run the OS properly. Even some machines from Apple less than 2 years old couldn't use this feature.

Microsoft has chosen to make it a Longhorn feature, and didn't push for this earlier. Not sure why, but this of course means that OS 3D acceleration won't happen on the Windows side until 2005 or, more likely, 2006. The benefit for Microsoft will be that the penetration of adequate 3D cards in desktop machines will be much higher than what Apple had in 2002. OTOH, who knows what new stuff Apple will have too in the OS by 2006.

Dude, daylight savings screwed up the forums bad. That's a major bug.

However in response to Mac OS X, it's really funny that they offer Remote Desktop for Macs for $200 when we get it free with Windows XP Pro!

Yes it does, and has since Aug 2002 with the release of OS X 10.2 Jaguar. Apple calls the related technologies Quartz Extreme and Quartz. If you're a geek this is seriously cool stuff that enable the next step in PC UI. You can see Quartz Extreme in action in Fast Users Switching in addition to Exposé. You need a GPU w/ HW T&L for QE, on a Mac that means a Radeon /GeForce2MX or higher. It's cool to see this technology seeing broader use than gaming.

why is that useful? there's less desktop space if you use it that way instead of just minimizing to a taskbar

Because it means you don't have to minimize anything. F9 lets you select whatever window you want, and F10 lets you get at the desktop.

It's sweet, just finished installing Panther on my 550Mhz Powerbook. In addition to using the function keys you can set up hot corners on the screen to activate expose features.

User switching has nice 3D effect as well.

Apple Remote Desktop is a administrative tool for managing multiple PCs, and not a direct competitor for MS Remote Desktop. That said, it'd be nice to have a free single user remote desktop.

For me it's not an issue because I have only one Mac laptop and one Windows XP desktop. There is a free Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection for OS X so I use that to control the PC wirelessly.

Plus, for sharing drives, etc. it's very simple in both OSes.

A brief explanation and a video of why this designer thinks it's "all that".

It looks cool, but call me stupid, isn't this just a fancy Alt-Tab, WinKey-D replacement for the Mac?

The same ALT-tab stuff already exists on the Mac, Expose is WAY better.

No comparison.

I absolutely love Expose. That's one of the main reasons I bought Panther. For $69 student price, I guess it wasn't such a bad deal. I also like all of the little improvements it made. One of my gripes about Jaguar was that Print Center was an application in the Utilities folder instead of being an applet in System Preferences like one would assume. It also feels a lot snappier.
