it has been known since the middle of the season that furcal was going to be leaving atlanta. he wanted to stay but is now worth more than the braves can afford. the mets or cubs were expected to get him though, not the dodgers.

Yeah, I'm definitely sad to see him go, but I have faith that Bobby Cox will do a good job in replacing him.

Did he sign a one year contract with LA?? Last year he batted .289 with 29 hr and 105 rbi..thats pretty damn good. I'm sure he'll be signed by some time who needs a second baseman.

Braves GM John Schuerholz is a very smart guy and I'm sure he'll find some young kid who will do a fine job at shortstop under Cox. I think Betemit has been playing short in the winter leagues but I'm not positive on that.

Kent has a two year deal, 06 is the final year.

im not saying that it wont happen but it might not at this point. chipper jones just took a huge paycut that will save the braves around $15 million over the next few years.

Just let him have a few drinks and drive around LA for a while. Seriously, I didnt think the Braves were going to sigh him at that kind of jack. Betemit is probably going to be the starting ss for now, but I believe the Braves have a stud down on the farm that is about a year away from the bigs.

I am torn between whether Furval had a "contract" year or not. Some of the Braves senior players took him aside after his last DUI and laid it out to him, and he seemed to respond. He looked alert and not half in the bag like he used to. I hope he can live up to the pressure of a big contract.
