So I'm getting married at the end of August and we are apt. shopping. We are thinking of moving to the Passaic/Clifton area of NJ because we both work nearby. Rent is crazy! A 2 BR in a decent building is going for $2195 a month. Ridiculous, this is not Manhattan! I guess we'll end up paying that much, but jeez, it's nuts.

Be flexible on location. Sometimes just moving 10 minutes down the road can save you a bundle.

That's crazy talk. I've got a ~1200sq ft, 2 bedroom apt and only pay a little over $800. And it's a REALLY nice apartment too. But I'm in TX. ~$2200 in rent really sucks.

Thought about that. We aren't yet sure that we'll be staying here long term (more than a year or so) and houses are going for crazy amounts around this area as well.

That's way too expensive... after living in Indiana, I can't even imagine spending that much on renting an apartment. I'll be spending half of that, split among 4 people, for something much larger (4 bedrooms, 5 bathrooms, etc.)... I love Indiana

Wow, in NJ it sounds like "finger cuffs" with you between gas prices and rent.

yeah rent is high. while err "dropping the kids off at the pool" i was reading the ads. a 3 bedroom apartment is $800-1200 a month. man thats insane! my mortgage+insurance+taxes are $890! sheesh

though the last 5 years rent has nearly doubled. the same apartment that is $1200 was 650 about 5 years ago (sister-in-law rented one).

I lived in North Jersey up until a year ago, and 2.1K for a 2 bedroom seems awfully high for Clifton... I was paying about a thousand less for a 2-bedroom in North Arlington before I moved out to central Jersey for work.

One might say rents are so high because there is more than one person dumb enough out there to take it.

Actually NJ has some of the lowest gas prices in the country. Not that that means the gas is cheap...

Probably 40 roommates. Or a lie. Or a dump.

Ah, AT. The place where folks either spend $10,000 on a studio apartment or $300 on a 5000 sq ft house.
