This it typical of ANY city in ANY part of the world.

Resolution - stay away from cities (not that suburbs don't have them, they are just spread out more)

I live in a small town of less then 3k people, being homeless here is not a option as its illegal to panhandle, the homeless population of known homeless in this town is zero.

Used to live in towns of half a million people in California, homeless everywhere and honestly i don't miss much of California anymore besides the beachs....

California is deluged by hobos, mostly all from other states, & illegal mexicans. You people elsewhere who reference your historical and local experience in your area, maybe partially based on how things were 10 years ago, SIMPLY HAVE NO IDEA.

"Official" gov reports of their numbers are ridiculously low. We have MILLIONS of ‘em and our public infrastructure (schools, hospitals, police, sanitation, parks, public spaces) are pretty thoroughly destroyed because they’re here in tidal-wave numbers. Their viewpoint is, get in here & have that anchor baby quick! Then all their extended family are golden, live off welfare. We (YOU) pay. We have huge cardboard squatter shanty towns around San Diego county and all up through the San Joaquin Valley without water, toilets, nuttin’ where groups of 100% uneducated peasants of an alien culture live in the dirt. They don’t belong here. They don’t want assimilation. The gov’t of mexcio (intentionally not capitalized because I don’t respect) has a program to export its burdensome Mexican peasant class to California. A handful go to Texas, Arizona, Colorado, but mainly they flood California. Bush 2 & Obama & gov Brown flatly refuse to stop it. Prominent politicians in state (Gil Cedillo ) & federal (shithead Pelosi) legislatures cheerlead for more of it.

If you’re homeless in Philadelphia or Detroit and snow’s a commin, just hop freight trains to sunny ultra-hard-left California where they’ll set you up & support you? Worse is the Mexicans. The deluge of Mexicans in millions has utterly destroyed Calif public schools. Just have that anchor baby on American soil & dream cum true. “Official” gov’t numbers of their population are ridiculously understated.

If you’re referencing your historical local experience elsewhere, YOU HAVE NO IDEA!
get rid of the socialist support programs and the problems disappear

I'm going to hell for making fun of homeless people.

Better than when I gave two homeless people money for fighting for a street corner.

Where I live in Austin, TX being homeless is a valid life choice apparently but I only give them money when they provide something in return like the said entertainment.

Relatively nice weather...not hot in the summer nor very cold in the winter, coupled with uber left-wing liberal policies...homeless haven.

Used to live in Ventura,California and yeah you wouldn't believe how many food banks they have there.A homeless guy there wouldn't ever worry about starving and i heard stories about females and even young males being picked right off the street and before you know it they would be instant millionaires cause the people picking them up felt sorry for them and somehow want the homeless as soul mates.

Knew a guy personally out in Bakersfield,Ca who went from living in a shed to marrying a woman who was worth millions,he came pulling up in a brand new car and we talked, his wife was about to consider buying him a brand new challenger with a hemi, all he had to say was yes.

we have three kinds of homeless people here in Denmark:

the ones who chose it as a lifestyle. (these are usually quite hilarious and harmless people, they also wont take your money unless you're paying them to do something)

the batshit insane ones who managed to fight their way out of the mental healthcare system (we don't have those were I live so I really don't have any experience with them)

eastern european criminals who couldn't be bothered to make any sort of sleeping arrangement on their crime raid (they cause problems and makes a huge mess where ever they go).

People just don't seem to realize: Don't feed the birds. Contributing money directly is contributing to the problem. Inyet they wonder why the numbers keep growing. They wonder why the same person returns to the same corner the next day. They wonder why they refuse someone's letover apple...

This. There's a guy standing in front our local 711 (only in the afternoon, guess it's not a morning job), asking for money while pretending to sell streetwise. Ignoring the fact he's trying to sell the paper after 5pm, every now and then he goes into the 711 and gets himself coffee and food, because you know, you get the afternoon slump when panhandling.

I fucking hate all the yuppie assholes that give him cash, as they're singlehandedly depreciating my townhouse and making him a permanent fixture.

California is the most populous state in the country. There are more people of all sorts there. Do homeless people stay in cities like Oakland or do they take bart to SF?

They take the bart and are generally all over. Except for maybe the presidio.

Really? Do we really have to classify the homeless?

it still amazes me how many people remain so clueless as to what a hobo actually is.

lookittheufuckup.

and yes, there is a very real difference between "successful person gets sick of the rat race and decides to travel around see shit and work to pay their way" vs "mentally ill/unstable/alcoholic/bum homeless person contributing nothing"

All hobos are essentially, "homeless." Very few homeless people are actually hobos.

There are over 7 million people in the Bay Area and over eight hundred thousand in the city (SF). I wonder what percentage of them are homeless. And how many people in the city still wear flowers in their hair.

Those are bums. Hobos work.

A hobo is a migratory worker or homeless vagabond, especially one who is penniless. The term originated in the Western—probably Northwestern—United States around 1890.[1] Unlike "tramps", who work only when they are forced to, and "bums", who do not work at all, "hobos" are workers who wander.[1][2]

It's like whisky and bourbon. Some people think they are totally interchangeable. And yes they are bums.

Not saying "to hell with democrats" , but there seems to be a correlation with welfare, liberals and budgets.

Of course it does, since the city of San Francisco pays them hundreds of dollars a month for being homeless.
