Holy crap, TMobile did it. Binge On video streaming

On, you get and optimized 480p+ stream and no Data usage on your account.
Off, you get whatever xxxxp you can pull down, but it will be counted against your Data.

These statements confuse me. Is there a specific app that allows the streaming or did you just mean each specific app.

I've got the impression that this works as an App type of deal, and you can turn it on or off.

Basically what is going on here is the Provider is sending the 480p stream when the App is set to "On".
I also believe the App functions as an Upconverter (this is where the optimizations come in) and is another reason the 480p+ video looks so good.

I've got a Blu-Ray player that does Upconversion of DVD's - it works so well that I can't really tell the difference between Blu-Ray and DVD.
These are both going to a 52" 1080p Plasma screen, so I should be able to see differences, but I really can't.

Then by that standard, any router that performs any type of QOS optimizations would be in violation of the principles of net neutrality. And I am not talking about the types of routers people have in their homes(although they would certainly be in violation of NN), all ISP and backbones do this sort of thing with their hardware correct?

Truly a case of "the perfect being the enemy of the good."

Yes, QOS at the ISP level is considered a violation of net neutrality and they're not supposed to do so. Why do you want the ISP to decide what services over their network have higher priority? What if they set a high priority on traffic from Netflix if Netflix pays them which, conversely, slows down your Hulu viewing?

Apparently unlimited data price is going up to $45/month for new customers after November 15th. Existing customers are grandfathered in at the current price ($30/month).

The 480P limit means I'm sticking with unlimited data.

I think it's cheaper if you do a family of 4 for unlimited data since it's 180.
But if you do individual or in 2's it's more expensive.

I should had stuck /w the unlimited for $20 they had a long time ago. Oh well lol. I don't really need it though, I dropped it when they face unlimited streaming music since that was all my data.

the 480p cap is enabled by default... so those with unlimited will need to turn it off

those on unlimited might want to keep it on for various reasons
- 480p doesn't count towards the 23GB deprioritization policy
- you can get a free Vudu rental per month (I think this doesn't apply to the legacy unlimited users paying the old rate... only for those paying the new rate?)
- I believe that you can tether and watch 480p on a laptop without it counting towards the tethering limit... not 100% sure

Unlimited users now also get 14GB of tethering. That is a pretty healthy amount of tethering.

One of the sites reported that it did apply, but I guess we'll find out after the 15th.

Only gripe I have with T-mobile is that their legacy plans don't get any of their new plan offerings unless you switch.

They'll have to pry the $10 family international mobile/landline calling out of my cold dead hands.
