More and more parents don't deserve respect.. Most parents nowadays are in credit card debt, have no future plans, and many have severe emotional problems.

My gf's mom tries to take out loans in my gf's name.. Her father left when she was 11 and she hasn't seen him since. Surely her parents don't deserve respect.

Kids now are smarter than ever - and it just isn't because of their parents many times..

Amen. Parents don't deserve respect, it should be earned.

I grew up in a very verbally abusive household and let me say the following: I'm sure the kid could be a dick sometimes, every kid is especially at the age of 16 but normal parents do not flip out like that. They can get mad, but it takes a verbally abusive, mentally deranged person (as in bipolar, not necessarily fully psychotic) to yell and scream like that. Sure, the kid probably acted a little better because he was recording it, but I did the same thing when my dad went nuts. It's easier than engaging in yelling and screaming.

Just my 2 cents.
