Perhaps you have never been to a US plastic surgeon. I don't see anything special.

I grew up in Korea until 13.

Maybe I was oblivious to this, but plastic surgery is RAMPANT over there. I personally knew girl classmates that got the 'double eyelid' surgery when we were 8. The moms get it for their daughters like getting them a set of earrings. And this was the early 90's!

It's basically they give it a fold, so your eyes look bigger and stylish. People here say they're trying to be 'Western', but I disagree with that sentiment, as there are plenty of Asians have these natural folds. And they certainly don't think 'I want to be white' when they get these done. They just want to look better.

So that double eye lid thing is the most basic surgery you see EVERYONE get. They're obvious to pick out because when they close their eyes, the fold persists whereas the natural ones disappear. If you see this, the 80%~ chance is that they're Korean more than any other Asian.

More involved surgeries are rampant too- they literally carve and sand down your jaw line to make it more shapely & feminine (like OPs pics), and do other crap like nose jobs.

While Americans here obsess with ugly ass fake tits and botox (because white girls age so fast), Asians do the eye lid thing very commonly.

[edit]
It is my personal pet peeve when Asian girls DO try to be white. There's nothing that turns me off more than stupid fake ass Asian girls with dyed blonde hair & blue contacts. Also I recently heard of this fake bigger iris contacts-

Now this shit pisses me off to no end. I want to bitch slap her so hard, after it, her hair and colors are back to black.

It may not be overt, and they may not realize it, but they're trying to look white. It's probably due to the pervasiveness of American culture, where beauty takes one form(white).

Well, as a Korean who grew up over there until 18 and still has active connection/communication through people in Korea, I can confirm it's a little too much over there. Many Koreans in Korea agree to that.

But on the other hand, there is literally nothing much you can do about it due to social reason.. If you are ugly, unless you have a proven record of accomplishment in your career or education (like you graduated top-ranked college), you cannot get the job. Why? Because you have to put your photo on your resume and job application! If you are ugly with no great background, sorry, you are failed at the first round. It's more of social issue that makes people do plastic surgery over there unlike in US that is very personal to get plastic surgery.

I just learned about this on the podcast This American Life and how Koreans put a picture on their resume and it is known that when two qualified candidates apply the better looking one will get the job. they talked to an american teacher over there and she asked them about it. Interesting podcast but since they delete it after one week you have to find it on the blackmarket now.

Julia Lurie is an American teaching English at an all-girls high school in Gwangju, a city in South Korea. When she first got there, some things struck her as strange: On every floor of the school there was a full-length mirror, as well as a scale. And the girls used them constantly. They seemed openly preoccupied by their looks and their weight. South Korea, she finds out, has the highest per capita rate of plastic surgery in the world — some of her students had already had plastic surgery, and more were planning to get it. Julia tells what happened when she decided to teach a lesson on "beauty" to her students. (8 minutes)

It's a damn fucking shame in this day and age.

There was a thread here about how Korea airlines have super hot flight attendants, similar to US back in 30's.

And that's how backward it is. Those girls have been cherry picked. I'd rather see these fat and old hags of American airlines which represent equal opportunity employment.

We all know it is, but we cannot do anything. As the economy over there gets worse and rich-poor gap widen, it will get worse and worse.

Yup. I can't stand folks that pretend to be who they are not. Be proud of who you are and your heritage.

Also, agree with your statement about the cuties in Asian airlines, all young females and not old haggs as in the US airlines.

It may not be overt, and they may not realize it, but they're trying to look white. It's probably due to the pervasiveness of American culture, where beauty takes one form(white).

No. It is more like the "perception" of being "lighter skin" = don't have to work out door = cool/rich/wealthy/upper upper class/etc. That's why if you go to visit Asian countries like I do at least one a year, you would be able to see Asian females cover themselve up from the sun so they won't get darker.

Funny how in the US and Western countries, females spend tons of money to get darker .

This guy said it perfectly. Asians don't want to be 'white'. That's a douchey assumption. Perception goes both ways. The world doesn't revolve around you (or anyone). Lots of Asians can't stand or aren't attracted to white people and their 'strange' features (indentation under the brows, long nose, etc).

They get surgery because it just looks good.

So so many white girls get tans here. Do you think they want to be black or latin american? No.

Why does it look good? What's wrong with Asian eyes? For not wanting to look white, they sure do go for the Scandinavian feature set.

Yup, Svnla & Zeze said well about misconception of 'Asian does this and that to look like White'. They do not want to become white-ish. It's just how their (or our.. because my view of beauty is still very Korean-ish) standard of beauty is.

Our standard being a little towards White is different story. Our standard has a bit of White-ish property, but that does not equal to 'trying to be white'. Just like Zeze said about white girls tanning does not eqaul to 'trying to be Latin'. And if you think that way, White girls actually want more to be Latin than Asians do to become White, considering fake boob job, fake round axx job or waxing.

Eyelid is one area that white-property jumped in. But besides that, I don't think much else that is that much of white-property.

The girls with natural double eyelids are Asians too?- Many many of them have it. They want to be like them, not white. I thought this was made clear.

You think double eyelids are exclusive to white people? IF SO, then I'm with you 100%.

My fiancee has them naturally:

I have them too, so do my brother, my dad and my mom. And lots of my friends. And lots also don't have them. Nothing to do with wanting to be white. That just sounds so self-important.

In Asia, being "pale" or "white" is generally associated with beauty. This is an old cultural concept that dates back centuries ago where only sheltered and rich girls would be pale because they don't have to be working in the fields and spent all their time indoors. Dark skin color is generally associated with working class people and generally being "unhealthy".

Bleached hair is just something associated with fashion. White girls do it too.
