Fast food - probably the single greatest contributor to the obesity epidemic.

At least they have a decent variety these days, you don't HAVE to eat high calories. I've been getting chicken wraps and salads when I have to eat fast food, and it still fits in my caloric intake for the day. Even many items on the dollar/value menus are within a reasonable calorie amount for a single serving.

The problem is most people just go for the biggest thing on the menu and upsize the soda/fries and gorge themselves.

Fast food - probably the single greatest contributor to the obesity epidemic.

The greatest contributor, by a large margin, is that fact that we don't force people to be economically responsible for their own bad choices. If people that lead unhealthy lifestyles bore the entire cost of that lifestyle rather than trying to spread the cost to everyone else, things would be very different.

Almost forgot...

It's a "Big Breakfast" from McDonalds, and you're surprised it has a lot of calories ?

Meh, McDicks just serves what people want. And they want quick, high caloric goodness. If salads were there number one seller, they'd go salad exclusive overnight.

A lot of the problem is people being lazy. We lead sedentary lifestyles and eat too much processed food. It's fast and requires no effort. It's not hard to find time to make your own healthy meals for around the same cost. Been doing it for years.

Isn't getting salad at McDs like going to a hooker for a hug??

Looking at the picture 1300 seems a little low. Esp w/hash browns and biscuit.

Environmentalism is a good cause unless you're an idiot.

Air pollution! Oh no! Water pollution! Who cares!

Hey, all you soybean product eaters! You're destroying the rain forest!

Oh wait...

The article says this:

(the U.S. is largely self-sufficient in soy production and does not primarily rely on Brazil as a source for the crop)

And this:

Citing the importance of the issue, McDonald's has already issued a response to the allegations in the report. Keith Kenny, senior director of quality assurance for McDonald's Europe, told Reuters, the Associated Press, and other news outlets that the company was launching an investigation into Greenpeace's claims.

"Worldwide, we take our supply chain and environmental responsibilities very seriously. We believe that the claim made by Greenpeace relates to the GM-free soya used in chicken feed," Kenny is quoted in the Guardian. "We can confirm that we will be investigating this claim fully and will review it for consistency in line with our existing policy not to source beef from recently deforested areas. McDonald's in the UK sources the majority of its food from the UK and Ireland. In 2005, over 17,000 British and Irish farmers supplied the company with ingredients."

And this:

Ironically Greenpeace's current beef with McDonalds partly results from the insistence by environmental groups and European governments that McDonald's use non genetically-engineered feed for its chicken products. Since Amazon soy is mostly GM-free, Europe serves a key market. A similar controversy has recently emerged with Europe's push for biofuels which may boost native rainforest clearing for oil palm and soybean plantations in Asia and South America.

I'm shocked it's so low...

Ditto. 1300 calories is a decent day starting meal. Follow that up with a sensible turkey sandwich and carrots for lunch and a nice grilled steak or chicken breast for supper with asparagus and you have a nice daily intake.

Active males need between 2500-3500 calories a day and you can do that with the menu above.

There are a few Panera sandwiches that are pretty close, if not equal to, when you throw the side of bread on it.

1100 calories for the big breakfast
200 calories for the syrup

The calorie count here has nothing to do with McDonalds or fast food and everything to do with the combination of items. The calorie count would be about the same if you made all that at home, although I'm sure the home cooked version would be much tastier. Pancakes, biscuits AND hashbrowns. Carb fest.

edit: darn it. All this talk of high calorie breakfasts combined with my weak will forced me to go make pancakes.

Yeah all of the carbs are what kills it for calorie count. Just how it is.

op is an example of why america is suffering from obesity - because so many people are clueless about health.

what is more shocking to me is that you can look at that picture and not know that is is well over 1k calories.

you don't even know what the OP looks like, his BF %, etc...

i agree with your comment but you don't even know anything about the OP other than what he had for breakfast.

<180lbs, eat whatever i want, exercises, no body fat.
