Chrysler to recall 120,000 SUVs

Snippets:

DETROIT, Dec. 6 ? The Chrysler Group of DaimlerChrysler AG said Thursday it is recalling 120,000 Jeep Liberty sport utility vehicles to repair a problem that could delay the deployment of its driver?s side air bag. There have been no deaths or injuries related to the problem, the automaker said.

THE PROBLEM IS CAUSED by a bracket scraping a sensor wire during a severe frontal crash.

The condition causes the air bag to inflate about 20 milliseconds slower, which could cause an injury to the driver, spokesman Michael Rosenau said.

The vehicles affected will be those built from April ? the start of the 2002 model year production ? through Nov. 27.

The locking clips will be changed to ?a more robust fastening system,? the company said. It affects the SUVs built between April and Sept. 13.

The automaker said it has received 13 complaints but no reports of injuries.

The Jeep Liberty has been one of Chrysler?s most popular vehicles, with 75,722 sold through November.

I didn't know this vehicle was so popular. I don't think I've seen one on the roads yet. It's not a very good looking vehicle, though, in my opinion.

I like when they have a recall... shows they are a good company... ( most people with a brain know what i mean )

they do replacements of parts for free because of possible failure... The chances most of the time of the actual failure or problem occuring is usually small, yet they do this anyways. I don't mind whenever i hear of a recall, i have had one on my car, and i went and got it fixed in about 30 mins at the kick butt local Dodge dealer.. It's a nice honest gesture of care from the car company I think...

This recall is not even all that bad, I have seen far worse....

I'd like to know how these people realized after an accident, "WTF? My airbags deployed 20 miliseconds too late!"

By recall they mean...bring the car into a dealer and they make the necessary change-out...something like one in five car models made has something at some point that should cause a recall...certain car companies are infamous for NOT issuing recalls when they should due to severe engineering flaws (not leading to death or injury albeit) that will cost the owner several thousand dollars later on...I won't mention any names...you know who you are.

Cheers to Chrysler.

Man, first year Chryslers always seem to have so many recalls/problems. Remember the first Neon? Problem city. My 95 (first year) Sebring had 4 recalls. The thing is, once they're a couple of years into the model, they're great cars. I know all firstyears tend to have problems, but it just seems that Chrysler has alot more than most carmakers.

Narrator: "A new car built by my company
leaves somewhere traveling at 60 mph. The
rear differential locks up. The car crashes
and burns with everyone trapped inside. Now:
should we initiate a recall? Take the number
of vehicles in the field, A, multiply by the
probable rate of failure, B, multiply by the
average out-of-court settlement, C. A times
B times C equals X. If X is less than the cost
of a recall, we don't do one."
Business woman on plane: "Are there a lot of
these kinds of accidents?"
Narrator: "You wouldn't believe."
Business woman on plane: "Which car company do
you work for?"
Narrator: "A major one."

Aren't you glad the American government bailed out Chrysler? Let's reward a company that continues to screw up over and over again.

Wow there Mr. Narrow Thinker...... go look up how many people Chrystler emoploys.... then just think how many other people would get laid off if Crystler was no more b/c the company that they work for doesn subcontracting work for Crystler. Do the math. There were other factors but that alone would have changed alot of things.....

I think there are a few problems with the Legacy that Subaru should have recalled but didn't. My mom has a 1990 Legacy sedan, while the engine is rock solid, there were a few fubar that should had been notified to the customers. Most dangerous was the timing belt, which broke only after 30K miles, go to the subaru forums and you know what I mean. The GL model before the Legacy were quite problematic too, this car was more expensive to repared than my old 77 Chevy Nova I had during my high school year, and my dad had one before he bought a 2000 Mitsu Galant, which should had been recalled but wasn't until someone blew the cover. There were persistent problems with the brakes, annoying clitches with the steering wheel.

Enough ranting, recalls are not that bad.
