as for amused one...there is nothing natural about a gun, nothing at all. As for the aliens, you can do better than that, can't you? Scooting everything else to the side for for SUV's and and chemical plants...oh boy, we're so smart, we kill everything off and try really hard to save them at the same time. Get a frickin clue!

I think that John Candy said it best in "The Great Outdoors"

"Big bear, big bear chased me!"

Emotional outbursts don't help your case any. Tell me, are monkeys that use sticks to fish out termites from their mounds doing something unnatural? Are otters using rocks to open clams unnatural?

If one use of a tool is unnatural, all tool use is unnatural.

Our tools are more sophisticated because our brains are more sophisticated. Our brains occured naturally, as did our ability to use tools.

Animals cause extinctions of other animals all the time. Man is no different, and no less "natural" than the rest. Our impact may be greater, but it is NOT unnatural.

In short, the hunter didn't win because he had an "unnatural" gun, he won because he had a superior -- and natural -- brain.

The reson this guy looks so stone faced is because his pants are full.

<< hayabusa...your an idiot nobody has the right to kill people, but it is the natural order of things... your looking at it from a human point, not the perpective of nature (can't grasp that too well, can you?) that dumb ass should have died. Furthermore, to argue that we need to "control" these animals because they are crowding into residential areas is very stupid. That man was in the bears home, not his. I've heard that lame ass argument from every hunter "golly, its eating from my flower bed, go get the gun!" >>

I like you. You are funny.

<< What a monumental waste.

Reminds me of a cartoon where a father cuts down a 200 year-old tree just to show the number of growth rings to his son, pointing out, "See, there's another year she survived a forest fire!"

Those bears, deer, and other animals survive on their abilities though incredibly adverse conditions, often forming family units. What right have we to drive out on a weekend and poach a couple?

They are far more honourable creatures than we, and especially sport hunters, could ever hope to be.

Craig

If people werent so blood thristy and actually find joy in killing other animals, than this huge be would have surived. It is quite sad for me to see how morally depraved our society has become.
sigh.....:disgust:

You fscking idiots, I can't belive some of you people. If his life was in danger then by all means shoot the bear. What is wrong with some of you people? It's just sick. You put an ANIMALS life before Human life? WTF!

What?!?

He was in harm's way because he went hunting in this bear's habitat. His decision, not the bear's.

Besides, there is no indication that the bear charged at all. Most kills are made in a far less heroic fashion than their storytellers would lead you to believe.

I propose that if sport hunters want to retain some dignity, they hunt bears with baseball bats. Suddenly, we would have a fair fight, and one that I would pay to watch.

Craig

You would rather see that man dead than a bear? That bear was shot in the face, which means it was facing the hunter, if that bear was facing the hunter from 10 yards away the bear obviously saw him. And despite what other people have said in the thread a bear like that WILL charge you.

Would I rather see a man dead then a bear? Sure, why the hell not. If a complete stranger came into your house with a rifle would you charge him? Or offer him a beer? That maybe a poor analogy I just don't like to see such an incredible animal shot out of sport. It's sad.
Hopefully next time his .338 will jam hard and some bear will take his head off.

Whatever the bear's intentions, we can safely assume they did not include mounting the hunter's head on a wall. (Though the irony of that image is remarkable)

In fact, let me change my proposal. Hunters can keep their guns. Instead, large bears are tranquilized and issued helmets and bullet-proof vests. If the hunter can manage to take down a charging bear through those defenses, then he deserves his reward. Of course, if the hunter fails, the bear is obviously more deserving. Everybody wins!

I am all for the right to own weapons, but hunting often makes me sick. Imagine how old that bear was! Maybe it was a she and was pregnant? Poor cubs are going to miss their mommy or daddy this winter.

If your question is simply, "Which life would you choose to save, human or animal?" I'd say the human. Even if the animal in question were incredible majestic, and the human a poor example of his species, as those pictured so clearly are.

But once that guy put himself 10 yards from a bear, rifle in hand, all bets are off. You can't save someone from their own stupidity. And given the guy's malicious intent, I would rather the bear had ripped his head off, thank you very much.

Regards,
Craig
