What mobo did you end up going with? The Sabertooth? Also thanks for the Mobo info. So will it take the Ecc stuff you posted in that link?

Yes, I purchased the Asus Sabertooth x79. It uses standard DDR3 and isn't ECC capable - which isn't going to matter for my application.

I just bought this as a backup to my Asus P9X79-e ws in case it ever take a dirt nap,its a Intel Motherboard Named the Intel DX79SR. I got it brand new factory sealed for $150.00. Been reading alot of reviews and it seems like its a good board but there are also some bad reviews claiming these boards have issues with the 6gbit sata controllers burning out.I dont know how true that is but this is the first time I have ever heard of that kind of a issue. What do you guys think is this an ok back up mobo?I figured for $150 what the heck why not..

For ~$70 I'd be all over one of these just to see task manager with 16 threads... But considering the $300 asking price for a board, I'll have to pass.

So F'ing mad right now... Stupid scammer on ebay sent me a dead Asus motherboard.. I tried everything.. Both Cpu's,Different ram,Different Gpu's,Bios Flash Back nothing worked... This motherboard is dead.. Luckily I got the Intel Motherboard in right after this piece of crap showed up. The Intel Board works like a charm and so do both Cpu's.
How is ebay at getting my money back and helping me to return this junk? Should I do a charge back or wait for ebay to sort things out? Damn it I am pissed..

Sorry to vent like that guys, I just hate ebay some times when sellers try to get over on people like me.For $200+ I would think that a Asus Board would come in working condition. Well even the Intel board wasn't without issues. It had 5 bent pins that I was lucky enough to get them back into place. But its working great now and that is the motherboard everyone complains about. Talk about living in the Twilight Zone... I was expecting the Intel board to not be good not the other way around.. Well I will give ebay a chance to resolve this issue, but if the seller wont refund I will have to be force to do a charge back..

Nothing to worry about, ebay handles the return and refund. Buyer always wins.. I know.. I sold a Gigabyte board & buyer had it a month, then asked to return it as not working. Ebay made me refund him, and when I got the board back it had obvious spill damage. Ebay would do nothing for me.. Buyer always win.

I'm sorry about you guys' situations. But Burpo, that makes me feel a little bit better about the guy I bought my board from. He hasn't sent it yet or responded to emails. Fleabay still says I'm supposed to get it sometime next week. Tues-Fri. Another week and a half till I find out if I'm getting a board or a refund. :/

I didnt have any problems making it run max on all 16 cores with Ubuntu Mate 64Bit. I encoded Ted 2 from DVD to 1080p MKV Up covert and maxed out all the settings in handbrake just for fun. Both video sliders for file size and quality set to as high as they would go I think they called it placebo setting. Took all of 40 mins and out put a file 2.3gb in size from 6.9GB Vob file. Also did a another test with 2 pass basic same settings took around 50 mins to complete and got a file size 2.5Gb in size from the 6.9GB Vob file. Now that is what I call amazing. My AMD x4 760K@4.6Ghz Took 24 hours to do the same 2 tests.. About 12 hours each on amd versus 40-50mins each on Intel. Both Cpu's cost me the same too. Not that I am comparing the two to start any fights that is just the 2 Cpu's I currently have to see the difference. I couldn't be more happy with my e5-2670. And the MKV Video's Look very very nice. Still trying to get a new graphics card though, currently looking at the Sapphire R9 380 Itx card.

I guess you're the only one to get it up and running so far. I'm still waiting on my board. Something has shipped from the guy on ebay, hopefully it's a fully working Sabertooth x79. My Xeon chip is sitting on the shelf in it's anti-static bag. Heatsink on the way from Newegg.

Awww sorry to hear that, that sucks when sellers take forever to ship stuff.I hope you get it soon. Yeah I am glad I got the 2 boards when I did or else I would be where you are right now with my cpu siting on the shelf.Cause my first board was DOA.What heat sink did you end up getting? I am running a Kraken x31 water cooler and I dont think its going to cut it. When I ran my Handbrake test and all my cores kicked in my water cooler rad got pretty warm to the touch.it stay cool if I dont stess the cpu.So I guess now I have to chalk up another $100 bucks for a new heatsink or upgrade the radiator which im not to sure how to do it. I hope you didnt get the 212 evo cause there is no wy thats going to keep these beasts cool enough.

I picked up an Arctic Freezer i30. Supposed to be good for 320w TDP.

Edit: I should say, it's going in my server case, which has 4 120mm fans pulling air front-to-back (intakes in front, exhausts in back). The top two 120s are unplugged, but depending on how it cools, I might plug them back in and use them to push fresh air down into the back part of the case.

I've got a ASUS P6TD x58 w/ Xeon W3570 3.2GHz 6GB DDR3 Triple Channel and had considered an X79 / C606 build but the 2 native SATA 3 6Gbps and lack of native USB3 really turned me off to the platform. Not only that but the lack of decent X79 boards on eBay made it a no brainer.

I went with a Gigabyte X99-UD4 board which not only has all native SATA 3 6Gbps but also native USB 3. I now also get DDR4 and I just snagged a Xeon E5-1630 v3 3.7GHz off of eBay for $220. This is going to feel much more like an upgrade than the X79 system would. It cost more than the prebuilt Dell Precision / HP Z420 but I got the parts that I wanted for not too much more.

I got a Lenovo D30 with dual E5 2630v2 CPUs and was wondering if the E5 2670 would be an upgrade? Is it worth upgrading the cpus.

No, you wouldn't notice any difference, but your power bill would go up.

The Asus X79 Deluxe and the Sabertooth X79 are very similar, and should overclock slightly better than other X79 boards. Check out the video below where he takes the 12 core Xeon E5 2697v2 to 4GHz via 113bclk.

I dont know if I even wanna overclock. The system is so damn fast at stock its mind blowing. And as for there not being any Sata 3 6gb ports, well I have 6 on mine and 4 USB 3.0 ports plus a USB 3.0 header on the motherboard for front panel so what are you talking about? Also I am pretty darn sure a E5-2670 would destroy a E5-1630 v3. I was thinking about buying another Motherboard, maybe a dual socket one this time since after all I do have 2 e5-2670's. I was looking at the ASRock EP2C602 SSI mobo since its only $270 bucks. Anyone know anything about this mobo? Is it any good?
