Work has been super busy and I find that doing work outs at home is more convinient right now. I need a decent cardio routine that isn't just going outside running. Currently, I own a jump rope, but I don't want to do that everyday.

This is just to compliment my strength routines. I was also thinking of just doing the first "warm up" part of Insanity pure cardio. The entire thing is too much I think as it works you to the point of exhaustion and the fact I am trying to lift weights using the muscle groups used in these videos 3x a week seems like it would hinder the period of rest that is needed.

Overall, I am not a fan of P90x or Insanity as I feel like in general you don't get enough rest to recover. That's just me personally though, as I tend to take slightly longer than normal to recover from work outs.

Couple points here:

-P90X and Insanity are designed to push you, but if you feel that you're not getting the rest/recovery time in between, why not simply do it 2x a week instead?

-If you feel like you're requiring a longer recovery time, then we might want to take a look at your diet. What's your diet like? What are you eating? And most importantly, are you getting enough sleep? One to two days of rest should be more than enough time to recover after a workout.

-Treadmill, rower, stationary bike, etc. Pick your choice, load up some Netflix or YouTube, and get your workout in.

I am pretty sure the time between recovery in HIIT situations is directly related to how 'in shape' you are, at least cardiovascular stamina wise. If you're talking about recovery like muscle recovery, that is probably more diet and genetics.

The thing with Insanity (and I assume P90x, but I've never done it so this is just a guess) is that you go at your own pace. You don't have to keep up with the guy in the video the entire time. If it is too much, modify or do less / slower reps.

For home cardio, plyometrics is probably the least boring (at least to me). If you really wanted to not be bored to death, I'd grab a rower machine, a bike, and a good plyo routine. You can at least switch it up that way. A good spin routine is a good workout (even something like 30 / 30 HIIT for 20 minutes).

Burpees, burpees, burpees.

One of my most brutal workouts.... start with say a set of 15 burpees, followed by 45 second rest, followed by 14 burpees, followed, by 45 seconds rest. All the way down to 0. It winds me more than any other cardio I've done.

I worked my way up to starting with 17 all the way down to 0.

All- Thanks for the replies.

Let me say that even though this sounds dumb...I'm not willing to invest money really during this. Unless I could find cheap used stuff, I don't ever see myself buying a rower, bike, etc. I am a member of a gym, I just don't have time to go currently. Once work dies down and we place our contract, I'm sure I will have more time again. I just want to do SOMETHING as opposed to nothing. I should have specified I wanted to do stuff that did not involve me spending money.

So far the things I can consider are:

Burpees
Running up and down my stairs
Jumping jacks
Limited use of Pure Cardio (Insanity)

And as far as the whole recovery thing...On average I eat around 175g of protein a day. It depends how hungry I get and how busy I am during work, but I usually eat real protein for ever meal, with the exception to my post work out shake (herbalife protein mix with 8oz almond milk).

I really think it's my genetics overall. I am more of a medium to bulky build (couldn't fit me in a pair of hipster skinny jeans if you pulled them up me with a crane). I generally weigh about 20-25lb more than what people think I weigh when looking at me in plain clothing.

Currently sitting somewhere between 185-190, but probably closer to 190. I was about 183 but slacked on the diet and exercise because of work, stress etc.

Yep BodyBeast, and T25 is a great combo. Thats what I do pretty much. Sometimes I'll go for an easy light jog instead, but I prefer T25 to running.

Is this the new Shaun T work out stuff? If it's like Insanity I won't do it. Not b/c it's hard but b/c you just dont get recovery time. Even during the "pure cardio" routine you still work the hell out of your legs, and then the next day you have to come back and do a strength routine.

I never saw any results from Insanity. Maybe some modest strength and endurance increase.

i haven't been working out since march due to going through some GI problems(although i'm past them now and have no excuse now=p) but this really put my jimmies in a tussle after the 3rd time.

there's no time limit, just do it and i assure you, the burn, you will feel my friend.

I just ordered DPP Yoga Friday and got it in the mail yesterday. I haven't done it yet, but it looks very promising. If you watch the sample videos on Youtube it's nothing like Insanity, and not that similar to p90x either. I Googled for reviews before I bought it and people seemed to overwhelming love it.

I like that the workouts are much shorter, but still suppose to really work you over. And it's only 3x a week for most of the program. I'll start it this week and post a thread about it. But if it's anything like all the comments I read on it, it's one of the best home programs.
