Wtfbbq who keeps a gun not under locks and operate a homecare?

http://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory/police-toddler-shoots-children-michigan-day-care-50150818

Police say a toddler accidentally shot and wounded two other children at a home day care facility in suburban Detroit.

Dearborn Police Chief Ronald Haddad says a preliminary investigation has determined that the toddler "accessed a handgun and the weapon discharged" at around 10:20 a.m. Wednesday.

Police said Thursday that the wounded 3 years olds are in serious but stable condition at a hospital.

Haddad says the gun was kept in the Dearborn home. Several other children were in the home at the time of the shooting. They were taken to the police station to be reunited with their parents.

No one has been charged. Police say investigators plan to meet with prosecutors to determine whether charges will be brought.

I dont care if its a constitutional right: You should be required to take a safety class every 10 years and pass a test every 5 years.

How else are you supposed to defend yourself and kids from the hoards of murders, thieves and rapists trying to break in at any hour of the day if your guns aren't loaded and easily accessible? It's just not safe otherwise.

Luckily accidental shootings only happen to other irresponsible gun owners.

You always heard this kind of ridiculous thing once in a while, or maybe every year.

Gun owner definitely should be charged, who else?

Unfortunately no test will stop this, as even with driving tests we still have bad drivers.

YES! And that's why we shouldn't do anything at all!

Building on this stellar logic, we should eliminate driving tests, driver licenses, red lights and stop signs, because even with all these, folks, we still have bad drivers.

However, voting and Mexicans are totally exempt from this logic. Multiple levels of needless harassment and a wall will totally work, especially that not at all expensive 20 foot wall. What was good enough for the East Germans in Berlin is good enough for us! Plus, Trump intel reports that Mexico has yet to achieve 21 foot ladder technology.

No other constitutional right requires a license and test that I know of. The 2nd isn't a right any longer if you need license from the government.

Agreed, If you didn't get a "B" or higher in your High School civics class and don't take continuing education on the Constitution and political issues of the day every 5 years, you shouldn't be allowed to vote. Let's toss in owning property since those are the taxes used to fund education.

Nothing can or should be done about this. Anyone who says otherwise is just a gun grabber.

What should be done in this case? To me this is just an example of plain stupidity, which is hard to outlaw. It could have been a knife, rodent poison, anything.

I'm pretty sure that Michigan has gun storage laws that if the firearm isn't in a safe or lockable container it must have a trigger lock installed. All firearms sold in Michigan MUST have a trigger locking device included in the sale of the firearm. The adult in charge of the firearm is criminally responsible for this accident.

While i dont support alot of the canadian gun laws i have to deal with one i do support is the mandatory written and practical gun safety course. At least then the people who own guns know all the laws regarding them, how to operate them, and how to legally store them when not in use.

The driving tests are shit. They need to be MUCH tougher. You should fail. You should have to study your balls off and go back again.
The road test should be done every 10 years and should be difficult enough to keep the real numbnuts from behind the wheel.

And driving without a license should be punished by gonad-kicking.

I wondered in a previous thread if such an action would require constitutional amendment. But, hey, there's a process for that. So if reasonable licensure is unconstitutional, why give up on the idea instead of advocating for amendment?

Not exactly a rationale argument; a loaded firearm is more rapidly dangerous, particularly in this context, than either items you mentioned and certainly more so than anything.

Horrible, horrible people talking about this tragedy. Its entirely to soon to discuss it since we don't know all the facts. A week from now when the investigation will be complete it will be too soon as well because reasons. 2 months from now it will be why are we concerned about it these things happen and we just need to move on.

...a well regulated militia.

Yes, can't have a well regulated militia if the militiamen cannot quickly arm themselves. For some 240 years it has always been a personal right to have and own guns, only relatively recently are people trying to pretend for all these years we have been misinterpreting the 2A's meaning.

Who cares, this story is just anecdotal anyway. Right? Or when guns are shown in a bad light is it a data point worth discussing?

The point was there are likely laws about storage of guns, they weren't followed, common sense for a day care setting was not followed. Fixing stupidity isn't something ever more laws can solve.
